Quick question - my 27" iMac i5 purchased early 2010 came with 4 gigs of RAM, 2 gigs in each top slot. I'm replacing those with two 4 gig modules, for a total of 8 gigs. Just realized I seem to have 4 RAM slots in this sucker. Can I move the original modules down to the bottom two slots and end up with 12 gigs total, or do I need to be matched across the board, or will that otherwise mess things up?
Thanks
Greg

You can use all 4 for 12GB.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I have same model and I just added 2 4GB sticks to the empty mem slots giving me 12GB. No need to move anything. Or if you want 16GB you can do as WAS suggests, get rid of the 2s and add 4 4s.

Ahhh okay, there's no advantage to having the larger & newer sticks in the top two slots? Perfect.
Thanks guys - figure this should help out Aperture tremendously.

Absolutely it should.
Please report back after the install with Aperture's performance (include OS version and Aperture version).
Thanks!
