Seems Madonna likes to steal the work of others - this time she's busted for it.

I know she's been sued before for the same, but never actually held liable.

The songwriter should go after her here in the US also. Hopefully the punishment will stick. Most celebrities think that they are untouchable.

Most of her new is album is a rehash of old songs. I mean, i forgot the name of one of the new songs, but you can hear Love to Love You Baby (Donna Summer) bass line.

I guess she can get away it.

I just saw her latest video. Didn't actually listen to the song because obviously I've got better things to listen to (like myself, for example).

What on earth is she wearing now? Please STOP BUYING HER RECORDS and she'll go away.

That sums her up

I don't like her for those very reasons. Perhaps if she made her own music I would consider listening to her records. Alas, as her carrier has been up until now that is unlikely to change.

Meh, that sum up Madonna. I still have not payed any currency for her "art" and I will not until she makes something worth paying for.. I think I'll be waiting for quite some time.

cheers

She has written some of it herself, but generally, no. For most of her stuff, she's co-writer (co-lyricist, that is).

Here's the difference between true originality and "borrowed" originality:

Hi Kev!

How are you? Yeah, I bet she has too - she just paid people to shut up.

I heard that Britney Spears was sued for the same thing.

Not only does Madonna not write most of her own songs, she doesn't even, for the most part, review candidate songs herself. It's most likely that she liked the song because one of "her people" suggested it to her, and whoever actually wrote the thing was either influenced by Salvatore Acquaviva's work or stole it outright.

Lawsuits like this should really be publicized as "songwriter sues Madonna's possee for plaigarism."

Oh, and just to remind everyone, the majority of "I wrote that song 20 years ago and didn't get a penny from the star that recorded it/took credit for it" lawsuits are either frivolous or otherwise defective. Some are really just an attempt to get "face time" with the star being sued.

Joe Satriani ripped off one of my riffs and solos once, note for note. I didn't sue. I figure if he needed it that bad...

Sadly, I`ll never give any.

Good lord people, all art is influenced by other art. Its been going on for as long as there has been some sort of art. In the olden days classical composers would hide their music, anywhere they could, in order to prevent people from ripping it off. Yet people did anyways.

Yeah, copying someone`s work is bad. I`ll agree. But going overboard on it sets back everyone, from the Madanas to the kids playing next door in their parents basement.

so stupid how the whole music industry is going.

if i wrote a punk song right now, i'd be pilfering from 10 bands without even trying!

whatev. i saw madonna's new video. she made a grave mistake. she did a "retro" look for this album and it makes her look old. trust me, as of this album, her career is over. she may have some cher-like sucess in the future but i doubt any men of today are going to mistake her for being hot.

All artists rip off lyrics and use old samples. Actually I can't think of any big artist or group after The Beatles who haven't done it. Can you?

I loved her on 'True Blue'; she got to her artistic pick on 'Erotic'. It seems she lost it in the last couple of years.

Well, the latest album is unabashed dance music, and does a good job of it. (And yes, the two ABBA members who wrote the one tune in Hung Up are credited as co-writers.)

I really like this new song (Hung Up), - but then I also liked the original by ABBA. Her other stuff isn't all that, afaic.

There really hasn't been an "original" style of music since the late 80s (techno), and 90% of all Rock, Pop and especially Rap is at least "inspired" by stuff already out there (if not blatently "ripped off"). Hell, without "sampling" Hip Hop wouldn't exist at all.

As a person I think Madonna is teh shiznat. Definetly the most successful femal pop artist ever...and at almost 50! still pretty hot.

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…

It seems that the major criticism that Madonna's getting in this thread is that she isn't young, and she isn't wholesome, like Jessica Simpson.

After 30 years of super-star status she should be a nutcase like Michael Jackson, but still she keeps going, making decent records every couple of years.

"Super star" should be reserved for the likes of people like The Beatles. Pink Floyd. U2.

She has absolutely zero ability to generate music on her own, period.

That means she is not a superstar except for a SuperStar Media Whore™.
