This doesn't really belong here, but whatever...

You know who annoys me?

Jim Dalrymple.

I think Apple could come out with a death laser that kills toddlers and puppies and he would talk about how amazing it was.

His newish site is a shameless Daring Fireball ripoff without any of the subtle wit or nuance that make Daring Fireball good. He even goes so far as to steal sayings and quips from John Gruber.

Something about the man just rubs me the wrong way.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

There is this popular thing to do amongst apple-centric tech journalists, which is to find crappy articles about apple and call them out.

This is fun past time, and great googly-moogly are there a lot of REALLY BAD articles about apple that deserve criticism.

But Jim Dalrymple has a habit of calling out any article that takes apple to task for anything. Even people who make valid or interesting points. He's like an attack dog against anything and anyone who says anything bad about Apple.

He's taken lately to calling out apple friendly journalists who dare to say anything critical of apple.

http://www.loopinsight.com/2012/10/11/some-people-shouldnt-be-allowed-to-write/

Today he called out Farheed Manjoo for writing an article calling iOS 6 boring and then changing his mind once he had some hands on time with the iPhone 5. In both article Farheed makes his case in a well thought out and reasonable manner.

What's funny about the whole thing is that Jim "ZZzzzzzzzz" Dalrymple wishes he had 1/10 the writing talent of Farheed Manjoo. He might be jealous because Farheed can actual write articles longer than 2 sentences.

Jim Dalrymple needs to learn that having a few really good inside contacts at apple does not equal talent or relevance.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

The length of the pre-roll on TWIT has hit levels of parody.

I tend to find the pre-roll more fun than the show.

My instinct was correct I think in keeping some distance from Tom Merritt. He's taken the first step out the door. Wife got a gig with Google, so they're moving to LA.

They insist up and down this isn't going to be the end. Sure, your EIC moves to another city, nothing will change at all.

The irony is it was Merritt moving from c|net to TWiT was what brought me into the fold. I'm not following him out. Maybe I didn't read the entrails properly, but the point behind hiring Tom wasn't just to have a daily tech news show, it was to have him be Leo 2.0. TWiT was going to end up as his.

That was a very cool thing to see, and it kinda hurts to see that get built up and then knocked down. Especially in the face of hosts like Sarah Lane, who has said she'd spend the rest of their life there, and really seems to mean it.

Oh well. Business is business I guess.

I don't know what his ambition is, but isn't he pretty much at his ceiling there, until Leo retires?

Maybe I have TWiT colored glasses here, but he has a a fully staffed TV studio at his disposal. Build the ceiling higher.

The one thing which makes me want to cut him slack is I get the feeling the finances may be poorly managed.

It's not confusing, it's just that lame.

He's not officially out. He's not having any duties cut. He cut them all himself months ago.

He's moving to LA, so he's going to Skype into his own show every day.

Except the days when they tape Sword and Laser, which is done next door in Alex Lindsey's studio. He's going to fly out to do that, so he'll stop by and do his own show in person on those days.

I either didn't know or don't remember that he cut his duties months ago. I'm assuming in conjunction with his wife leaving the network.

So is he gonna try to get on TV in LA or something?

If he's going to try and make it in LA, I honestly wish him luck.

Eileen, Tom's wife, who still was a host for All About Android, just got ganked for a conflict of interest with her new job.

And when I say "just", I mean it. Leo's was doing a preshow, realized the conflict, and offered the job to someone else. Right on the air.

Leo's spontaneity is both his greatest feature and weakness.

He should have let her bow out gracefully before doing that. And that's not even considering that he might offend her husband who also works for him.

This is assuming he isn't secretly pleased at the opportunity to stick it to her (them).

He kinda threw down. When Leo mentioned the conflict, Chad said "they're talking about it".

The response was "they can talk about it all they want, I'm the decider". He was smiling when he said it, but it was a pretty firm rejection of an opportunity to do things behind the scenes.

What is her new job? What is the conflict?

Never mind, a job with google, posted above...

Yeah, that's a total conflict, he made the correct call. Maybe not the best way to do it, but yeah.

I realize this shit is getting old, but at the end of the year I'd love to know how many episodes Dvorak was in vs. he wasn't. This year feels out of control. I wonder if I can blame it on Eileen's absence, as it felt more diverse previously.

I honestly think I would if I read them, but for the moment I remain part of the MacNN mobile underclass.

However I do wish ebuddy, as Mark Twain said, "had the time to write you a short letter", as well as the time to write single letters, rather than ones busted up by paragraph.

To be clear, I wish this because his content is good.
