2 episodes of Mr and Mrs Smith:
The company has given them no onboarding and very little instructions its no wonder they fuck it up. Where's the HR manual?
I like the characters but the end of the 2cd episode is very stupid. A rooftop composter is not going to handle what they gave it. These are supposedly exmilitary exspies. Even housewives in other shows do better.

Not feeling like continuing.

Class of 2007. Amazon. Australian.

What starts out as kind of a fun silly takeoff of an apocolypse happening during a 10 year high school reunion turns kind of Lord of the Flies. Perhaps these characters never watched Lost because they seem pretty clueless about survival and there's a lot of pettiness. Stopped being fun about 3 eps in. I don't think I'll finish.

Taylor Tomlinson’s new Netflix special, Have It All, dropped last week. Not quite as edgy as her last special, but nonetheless sharp and funny as hell.

We watched it this weekend! She's really funny and the bits about growing up in the church always hit home.

My absolute favorite joke of hers (from a previous special) was about how in high school she was the only one in her friend group not having sex, so she was the only one actually having orgasms.

Picard season 2 was pretty enjoyable.

Succession Season 4 seems kind of boring?

So far, yes. The third episode this week kind of veered way into the “white savior” weeds, though. We’ll stick with it, of course.

Perhaps because all the characters are awful I don't care if they die in a fire? I should empathize with Shiv, but find myself thinking Roman is the least problematic. Which is saying something.

No more spoilers.

Also, the least problematic is Gerri.

I was full in on sexpot Gerri!!

Also, wanted to give another shout out to one I think I recommended a while back, Tokyo Vice, which is currently in its second season. Yes, it’s basically a prestige-TV modern take on Miami Vice shot in Tokyo with yakuza. Michael Mann directed a couple of the early episodes. It stars Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe and a Japanese actor named Shun Sugata who plays just a badass old yakuza.

Halfway though Inside Man, which is fantastic.

Not a comedy, but each episode had at least one moment where I laughed for a full minute.

I finished. This is a show with no winners. The ending both makes sense businesswise, but is not emotionally satisfying characterwise. Logan did not raise them any better.

On a different take, am enjoying The Gentlemen, on Netflix. Similar to the movie but also a bit more light, with several likeable characters, and yes plenty of stylish violence.

Figure this is a good time to mention Any Human Heart again, which heavily features Wambsgans. It’s fantastic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Any_Hu...rt_(TV_series)

Not available for streaming at last check.

It would be completely illegal for me to hook you up with a rip if you PMed me, so don’t do that, mkay?

Clearly a Wambsgans hater…

The super rich just keep riching despite their actual ability and the snivelling, backstabbing asskissers keep weaselling upward. How satisfyingly American is that?!?

Oh, he was good. And there were times I could empathize with him. But just like greg, those moments passed.

I watched a dvd extra with him and greg switching roles. It was hilarious.

It would be horrible to see him in something else with his british accent. Just horrible.

Started watching The Gentlemen on Netflix today. It’s a new series by Guy Ritchie. The first episode definitely ticks all the “Guy Ritchie” boxes, so if you’re a GR fan, take a look.

Dark Winds, from AMC is on Hoopla the free streaming app from the library. Very well done cop/mystery show set in 1970 on a reservation with native actors etc. Well done but not cheerful.

Death and other Details

Disney +

Very good. Entertaining. (Mostly) never flags or dips. Lovely cinematography and the actors playing the lead sleuths are both excellent with interesting characters to portray.

I for one welcome the apparently incoming second series.

Plan to watch it with my dad.

Edit: he’s read the book and watched half of it. He said the book is excellent, but a chore at times because of its so expansive. He’s said that so far, the show is one of the best examples of adapting a book to television he’s ever seen.

I started the fifth episode today. I’m pleased so far. I read the first book two or three years ago, and was afraid I’d be lost, but the series (so far) is doing a good job of bringing it back to me (mostly.)

I’d forgotten about the nanofiber. Can’t wait to see how well they re-enact that scene.

I binged the season over the last few days. Interesting.

I'd heard of the titular orbital problem, but not a book series based on it.

We finally finished-up Mr. & Mrs. Smith tonight and...jeez...I was seriously let-down by the finale. It just sort-of devolved into a bunch of running, shooting, fighting, and a cliche “are they or aren’t they?” ending. So disappointed.

Complete lack of character development. You didn’t care about any of em. Of and that nanofibre scientist was both too hot and a bad actor, didn’t fit at all reallly

A new 28-minute episode of Bluey dropped last week. Quite the tear-inducing tale. Apparently, the producers are taking a hiatus after this, with no indication when/if the show will return.

For me, seeing stills from it triggers a viscerally unpleasant response.

Honestly, that’s not a criticism. I’m only mentioning it because it’s really weird.

Bluey I think is arguably the best kids show of all time. It truly is terrific. Could not recommend it more highly
