You cannot even download songs from a Mac iPod onto your Mac.
Apple does not allow file sharing of the iPod between multiple computers.
Once the songs are downloaded onto the iPod from your Mac or PC they cannot be transfered onto another computer. In Apple's law this is considered "stealing" because you are "sharing" music with other computers by using the iPod as the main server.

Macs mount Windows iPods no problem. Windows ipods are fine for moving media files such as mp3, jpg, mov etc to/between mac/pc but a windows iPod can not copy mac software properly

search for "iPod" on version tracker and you will find dozens of shareware utility programs - iPodmanager, iPodrip etc etc - that allow you to transfer music files from iPod to mac. easy peasy.

Or if you are handy with unix you can move music files from the iPod to the Mac using the Terminal command line.

Lets hope this capability is built into future versions of iTunes

I store all my music on my iPod and it would be useless if it was a black hole for files.

I had a question along the lines of this thread...is there any program like PodManager for the PC? I have a mac, but friends interested in getting an Ipod for the PC are concerned that they can't put songs from Ipod to their PC.

Thanks
