reviewer dumb or winding us up or trying to get hits?

http://www.divisiontwo.com/articles/MacMini2.html

guy doesn't even know what a DVI port is, and the classic part:

"So is the mini a maxi value?_ For me, clearly, no._ When I consider that a good deal of my time is spent running applications like Disk Defragmenter, Scandisk, Norton AV, Windows Update and Ad-Aware--none of which are available for the Mac platform--it doesn't make sense for me to "switch" to a Mac at this time."

people aren't that dumb are they?

I think I must be missing something

Neither. It is satirical

"By using cheap Asian child labor to assemble the units, costs have been reduced even further."

"For example, there is no Outlook Express for email, but Apple includes a program called Mail, which is like a stripped-down email client that cant execute scripts or open attachments without user intervention."

"While there is a Mac-style donnnnggggg when the Mini is first turned on, during normal operation the unit makes no sound whatsoever._ This could make it very difficult for a novice user to know whether or not the computer is on._ In fact, it took our techs about fifteen minutes before we realized the unit itself was operating normally and it was the monitor that was not plugged in properly."

"And no floppy disk drive?_ Well, no wonder they got the unit to be so small."

I thought it was funny!
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Yesterday, at the bottom of their homepage it said the site was satire. I bet a lot of gullible Mac fans have bombarded their site with e-mails so they pulled it to try and get even more feedback.

That's pretty funny. I love good satire.

"...or I could grab an equally stylish, full-featured eMachine at the gas station with a bag of chips for less than half the Mini's price, with the added benefit of being able to run Windows XP._ Decisions, decisions."

"The Mini boots up into a stripped-down operating system which Apple calls OS X, similar to the stripped-down WindowsCE OS found on many handhelds."

I laughed. Good stuff.

I think it's pretty clear that the whole site is humour.

Nah , I've seen some pretty clueless reviews myself, but when every single point they make is completely wrong, it sets off the BS meters something fierce. Looking at any of the other articles (especially the one about the dude who sets up Linux for his grandmother) and it becomes more obvious.

Still, the sheer number of people who got taken in by good ol' troll site www.adequacy.org is astounding.

That grandma article is totally awesome.

I was recently handed the task (thanks, mom) of replacing my grandmother's ancient Macintosh with something she could use to connect to the Internet just to send email. Some background: My grandma Helen is 89 years old, is always smiling, has a touch of Alzheimer's, and for the last decade or so, she has been running Macintosh System 7.5 on an old LC II. To my knowledge, she had only ever used it to type and print some letters using Claris Works. She has never sent an email, she has never typed an instant message, she has never even been online in her entire life.

So I had a pretty big task ahead of me. I had to set my grandmother up with something that was low cost (mom said to keep it under $700), had all the features Grandma needed, and most importantly, was easier for her to use than Macintosh System 7.5.

- snip -

For multimedia, she should be set. She can play the ogg and mp3 files she downloads either with XMMS, Noatun, Mplayer, Kaboodle, or Xine. They've all got their strengths and weaknesses. She can use the two drives I put in her system to rip, burn and copy CDs with K3b or Gnome Toaster. She can watch DVDs with Mplayer as long as she remembers to use the ++dvd flag when she compiles it. And for image editing, does anything beat The Gimp?

So that she doesn't get bored with the look of the system, I set up cron jobs that change the desktop theme and widget set for her every day.

She lives in a small condominium by herself, so I don't know if she's planning on running a network or not. I installed Samba and the DHCP server just in case so she'd be good to go if she wanted to hook up a few more boxes or even get her own intranet going. I'm not sure if System 7.5 can talk to Samba very well, but if she wants to patch the old Macintosh LC into her LAN she can probably h4xx0r something together in the smb.conf file.
Here it is running an emulated Windows 98 session inside a KDE session using Bochs.

OMG!!! My daughter has Flash on her iMac!!11! She is so totally in deep trouble.

Edit: Wow, the comments are even funnier. There's about 50 people who took that guy seriously and got their hackles up over his "ignorance." some of the rebuttals are hundreds of words long, with point-by-point refutations. Awesomeness.

Yes, this was a good one, however, it pissed me off to see how many people actually thought he was serious... There's something wrong with a lot of people.

Yup, and just like that, the article's gone
You can't really blame the webmasters for the article though, since they seem to have some sort of a user system that allows many people to post front-page articles (unless that user was the webmaster, I'm not sure, first time visiting this site to be honest).

Hey, timeline is only appropriate for double threads, not single posts ! If you start timelining single posts...

That photo was used in a thread earlier today. And it is quite old. I think this one could go to the judges for instant replay.

For Pete's sake, all the letters in your post have been used in a thread earlier today. You are timelined as well
