I'm holding off on upgrading my Rev A iMac from OS 8.6 to OS 9 because I understand InfoWave's USB-Parellel PowerPrint 4.5.7 (required for OS 8.6) is incompatable with OS 9. I can't seem to get a clear answer if there will be a patch for version 4.x.x or if I'll have to upgrade to the new version 5. I have run this product flawlessly with an HP LaserJet 1100 so far.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Infowave's PowerPrint 5.0 http://www.infowave.com/powerprint_5/ , expected to ship in November, will add scanning support for the Hewlett-Packard R-series and the Canon MultiPass series as well as improved print speed for Canon BJC 1000, 2000, and 80 owners and serial-to-Parallel support for HP DeskJet 800 series (including watermark, poster, N-up and banner). Customers in North America can pre-order version 5.0 by November 12th for $90 ($10 off) and "also save another $30 by sending in the PowerPrint 5.0 mail-in rebate coupon."

the above was easily found by doing a search of the MacNN NEWS archives... it is SO easy to search either the MacNN NEWS or the Forums sections... and then there's always the chance that you could/should contact the software manufacturer... `8-)

check these if you wish:

powerprint USB patch:
ftp://ftp.infowave.com/pub/UPDATES/powerprint/

and MacNN forum posts:
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Foru...ML/000034.html
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Foru...ML/000023.html

and finally, check the MacOS 9 report, there is info on powerprint there too: http://www.macnn.com/reports/os9.shtml

ALL of the above was gotten from ONE search of the MacNN NEWS archives, keyword 'powerprint'

Thanks to wlonh for the timely reply, but I feel I should clarify my original question. I am aware that PowerPrint V5 is available and provides the features stated. However, as a current user of 4.5.7, I'm trying to determine if I'll need to pay another $90 (minus $30 rebate) to purchase a full version 5, or if an update will be offered to the current version 4.5.7 for free or a minimal upgrade cost. I have received cryptic replies to my questions posted to InfoWave on their plan to provide OS9 support to current users. There is currently (at least as of this morning) no patch on their ftp site.

OK, in that case unless someone rumbles up with an answer from their own experience, i still say contact the manufacturer... call, email... hound 'em.
