The first low-cost iPhone will indeed be called the iPhone 5C, a source tells Business Insider. Over the weekend, a photo of product packages for a supposed iPhone 5C appeared on WeiPhone. The BI source, though, is allegedly connected to someone inside Apple who confirmed the name. Despite the indirect nature of the rumor, BI says it's "confident" about its assertion.

The source expects the 5C to launch alongside a flagship 5S. The person adds that the C stands for "Color," and that images of iPhones with colored plastic backs are accurate. No other new details have been shared, however.

Talk about handing the other side a gimme. I've already been reading variations on what the C stands for
IPhone5Crap, iPhone5Cheap, iPhone5Chintzi, I mean why give the haters a freebe like this? iPhone and iPhonePro are still my preference for names.
Though I did not know the place, I set out for the land of my dreams

Everyone predicted "iPad" would be a crappy, pun-filled name, but it ended up just fine.

Well, see, now I'm in a quandary. Give my old 4S to my kid and upgrade to a 5, or get him a 5C and sell the 4S. Depends on how cheap the C really is.

How's about you wait to see what the differentiating factors will be?

Though it's likely that the the 5C will be basically a 5 with a colored plastic back, limited to 8 GB storage.
