83%, 104 Miles, 493 Seconds
Most of the states I didn't know where they were but could guess from the shape and the little ones are in the east. Would have been very difficult for me if already placed ones where always removed.
Europe:
91%, 93 Miles, 306 Seconds

I didn't know what FYROM should mean either but it was easy since the surrounding countries were already placed (I misplaced Austria though -what a shame!!!!- just a little bit too far into Switzerland)!

Yikes! States were alright. But Europe... I had no idea where most of the former USSR countries were. Yes, shame on me I guess.
I got 90% and 75% respectively. However, it should be much lower as the exercise becomes easier since you can see where some pieces go.

Fun! But yeah, it does depend on what you start with somewhat. And I would not have know that FYROM is Macedonia except for reading TETANAL's and d4n's posts above.
US:
46/50, mean error 7 miles, 349 sec
Europe:
40/44, mean error 25 miles, 339 sec

U.S. Intermediate Map: 96%. 262 seconds. I didn't realize how anal retentive the program was going to be with Montana and Kansas early on in the game.
European Geography - Level 3: Avg Error 85 miles, 89% correct, 429 seconds. I did get Vatican City, Andorra, Luxembourg. I missed Moldova and Austria early on in the game, and San Marino, Liechtenstein, and Malta because they're so darn insignificant.
Africa is for masochists.

US: 45/50, 90%, avg err 21 miles, 338 secs. Getting those big west ones in the middle early put ya off a bit. At least I knew where abouts to try. Oh, and my other excuse is that I had 2 wrong before I realized it said the name next to the state. Trying to figure them out by shape wasn't fun.
Europe: Sorry, guys. My Europe geography is horrible, but I tried anyway. Level 3, 28/44, 64%, avg err 332 miles, 421 secs. But I've never had a geography class on Europe so it's a result of me not learning it on my own.

Only two I REALLY messed up on were Nebraska and West Virginia cause there wasn't anything near them so I just guessed.

88% on the U.S., which is mediocre. I blame some early "floaters" like Kentucky.
82% on Europe, which I consider a victory. I had a pretty good idea for most of them (i.e. East of Germany? North of Czechoslovakia?)
San Marino and FYROM kicked my ass, though. And I have Macedonian cousins!

America--
96% 6mi Error 260 sec
EUrope--
75% 127mi 250 sec
What really screwed me up in the Europe map was that it was not a flat map. Since I just finished a map of America, I was still used to it. So most of my first placements were more north than they should have been.

Try starting out with Iowa, Michigan, Idaho, Colorado, and Missouri.
I got a 94% on my second try.

That a HORRIBLE test! You know most people are going to just match up the shapes and not the names. As you get closer to the end your margin or error decreases because all the other places are already there.
Idiotic.

I had a real problem with the Deleware, Kansas, and Georgia. :/
I think I need to study my maps again.

Lol. 94% 68 miles 422 seconds on Europe. I have to admit, though, half of them I didn't know where. I just matched it up with the shoreline. I know western Europe pretty well. The couple I got wrong were Chzech Repulic and Serbia. Probably would've gotten those if I hadn't started with them.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

I did it a couple of times. first time was 92% with 11 mile avg error. It really just depends on what order the states in question come up. If you don't have other states or coastlines to use as a border, its nearly impossible to place a state like Nebraska in the middle of a blank map.
2nd try the states just popped up in an order that made them easier to place.

I just did it too, in 172 secs. I have to say it took a few reloads in order to get some good boundary states to frame them in. No matter how many times I tried, I can never hit Wyoming when there are no others around that touch it.
edit: 165 secs, woot. I think that's as fast as my brain can process them.
