I need to transfer a large file from one machine to another. I was thinking of using sftp. Or should I use scp? Is one better, more secure? Should I use another command? Thanks....

sftp and scp are pretty much the same, as they both go over the SSH protocol. They're both just as secure as SSH, but for some reason sftp is really slow... I'd definitely use scp.

Allright I'll use scp, thanks.

Is this the right syntax:

scp -E user@host1:file1 ... user@host2:file1

to copy the file "file1" from my machine to the remote machine. Do I have that right?

Yeah, you have that right as long as "user" is a legit user on host2.

One thing, though, you don't have to specify "user@host1" for the local machine, just use the path to the file:
Code:
scp Desktop/1.0.8.zip [email protected]:/opt/html/htdocs/acm/
See?
