I remember reading something on here about preparing a brand new ibook. Something involving formatting and reinstalling the machine/software? I looked for the post, but couldn't find it. The only thing I remember is someone saying the language packs take up a lot of space. Can anyone elaborate on some good steps?

edit: I tried to delete this post, since it's not the correct forum.. but it wouldn't allow me.

Yeah, the language stuff take up some space, but not that much. I really wouldn't bother erasing things.

If you really want to get rid of it, you can use apps like DeLocalizer. There are a number of them--do a search at MacUpdate or VersionTracker.

By the way, your question really has nothing to do with iBooks. Questions about OS X in general should go in the OS X forum.

Just update all of the software, if needed, and repair permissions afterward you should be good to go.

Since I like having my home folder on a separate partition, the first thing I did when I got the iBook was to boot from the included DVD and partition the hard drive, and after that I reinstaled OS X.

Ugh. If you're even thinking of partitioning (I'd recommend against it unless you're a developer), read some of the other threads to find some of the cons (and few pros) about it beforehand.

I've had my home folder on a separate partition for two years on my eMac, and I've never noticed any problems. Which would be the cons of doing it?
