Download iPod Updater 2004-11-15.exe for Windows

Download iPod Updater 2004-11-15.app for Mac OSX

These iPod Updaters will wipe all data from your iPod photo, but don't worry it's fast and easy. It took my about 10 seconds and the restore was done. After the auto restart I was dazzled by the shiny "Do Not Disconnect" image and the lovely title bar (not to mention, the battery is gorgeous). Beware though, these files, even zipped, are 20+MB. I'd take some photos, but my Canon PowerShot S500 doesn't take 'em that good [they are blurry and reflective].

If you can post pics it'd be greatly appreciated .

This is a theme for the iPod photo? Wow, didn't know it could be done.

Good work if so :-)

WOAH! I just got an awesome idea... instead of forcing my to buy an iPod photo, how about someone with some hacking skills figures out how to do grayscale themeing (theming? themeing? spelling?) crap like this for the 3g (and 4g if you have time ) iPod.

Alrighty then...

Just tried this out. For concept and ingenuity, you get Five Stars. For execution, you get Three Stars.

My quick, end-user's review is as follows:
It's pretty neat to get that cool, grey Menu Bar at the top of an iPod, but my iPod photo is still new enough where it's more of a kick to see color. The default blues and green battery indicator are a kick on an iPod. Greying them out just reminds me of the older iPod that's sitting in my closet b/c I'm too lazy to put it on eBay.

Also, as is the case on a lot of themes for OS X, there are too many Aqua elements left over, despite the theme being in place. So for now, I'm going back to the standard iPod photo interface.

BTW, nothing but respect and encouragement is meant by this review. I'm just letting others here know one man's opinion. pyn, you've started something I didn't even know was possible. Now that the toothpaste is out of the tube, iPod theming is likely to catch on just as theming our OSes has. pyn, you're an innovator.

And I see money in the future of whoever comes up with the first usable and safe iPod theme changer, because the Restore option sucks... Firewire is fast, but with thousands of songs and pictures, a complete restore is quite a hassle just to experiment with a theme.

Pyn if you hit me up (as you normally do ) on AIM, I'd be happy to do some LuMetem tweaked icons for the disconnect and such.

Shame I haven't got an iPod photo to give it a go..

err...that's Lutetium... anyways, there are splashes of blue throughout. it's a shame you can't change the blue selecting gradient.

Now that's creative use of the English language. Very nice way to put that. I dig it.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

I'm tempted, but not quite enough to spend the $100 more for an iPod Photo... Think I'm going with a regular 40GB if Apple isn't sold out for the holidays. I'm selling my good old 1st gen 10GB, I'll kinda miss it.

Can an iPod photo screen be scanned?
I really want to see what this looks like...
Or maybe you could do a photoshop mockup...

lol.

yeah, you could try sticking it on the scanner. but just make sure you have the backlight turned off or it will probably interfere with the scaners own light. and try to cover up the open edges of the scanner lid as well i guess.

but there's got to be someone out there with a digi cam? anyone?

How did you make a Mac version of the theme? I was under the impression that you could only do it on Windows.

I have a digi cam, but my iPod is to shiny even w/o the flash...

I hacked the windows updater and then used ResHacker to extract the firmwares. The iPod photo firmware was Data6.bin which I renamed to Firmware 5.4.0 and replaced in the Updater.app

use a camera on macro mode, with flash off, next to a good light source (and move the ipod so it's glare doesnt hit much of a camera. you should only get a tiny glare spot and the rest is clean.

but the [img] tags don't attach photos. to do that you'll need to use some free hosting service like ImageShack, PhotoBucket etc.

I have it. I downloaded it, and opened the file. Opened the program, bounces twice and quits. No application or anything.

I use 10.2.8 OSX PowerPC g3 is this not designed for my computer? Or is there something wrong with the file?

Photos are now available!!!! I know about the Moir effect, but if you want other photo's just ask and I'll upload some others. I just wanted to keep them small because of d/l speeds.
I'm still using the theme BTW, all is better then aqua IMHO...

Thanks for the tip Mac Guru!
