Alongside our regular MacNN Deals and Daily Deals posts, the writers of MacNN occasionally find offers that are interesting or major enough to warrant their own Big Deals post. Today, if you're in the market for a MacBook, we have a pair of offers from Groupon involving refurbished Core i7 15.4-inch MacBook Pro notebooks with Retina displays, at a hefty discount. If you act fast, one of the models can be had for $1,000!

Both versions on offer have the same 15.4-inch 2880x1800-resolution display, 256GB SSD storage, FaceTime HD webcam, two USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, SDXC, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and a battery life of up to seven hours. There's also the same dual GPU system, using Intel HD 4000 graphics along with an Nvidia GeForce GT 650M GPU with 1GB of VRAM, and identical 2.3GHz Intel Core i7-3615QM quad-core processors.

The only real differences between the two offers are the amount of RAM included in the MacBook Pro, the price, and the availability. The 8GB model is listed at $1,050, discounted by 52 percent, with a "limited time remaining" on the offer. The more expensive 16GB version costs $1,250, a saving of 43 percent, with Groupon advising the deal will run for seven more days, or until stock runs out.

There's more, though! On both of the MacBook Pro models, code "SALE3" grants the user an extra 10 percent off, up to $50! That makes the 16GB model $1,200, and the 8GB model $1,000! The discount code is for both existing and first-time users, and expires on the 18th.

Nice prices _if_ one chooses not to wait for new Skylake MBPs which are very likely within 45 days or so.

Agreed, but the i7 version won't be $1200.

Didn't Apple always handle the refurbs? Why are 3rd parties now doing this?

We've been told that they're Apple refurbs. If you look at Apple's refurb section, they really don't go as far back as they used to anymore.

I hope they are, and if so, it's a great deal. And, I hope Apple Refurb continues to mean the same thing. (My last 2 Macs have been refurbs, and both have been flawless. I wouldn't have any idea they weren't new.)

It's gotta be an older refurb if it's $1000. Looks like I was correct, this is [not the 2015 model], since I see no mention of force touch.

$1000 for a four-year old laptop that's within 15 percent of the 2016 models, and who's market value is about $1300? Bit different if you look at it that way, no?

For sure, not all that much has changed. In fact, I'd love to get my hands on a quad-core i7 mini. Some of the machines were actually better back then.
