i know how.

i'm just curious what the best way to transfer all my settings, apps, and data is.

i think i'm going to apple talk or scp the files directly into my new home directory, transfer the apps to my new applications directory (any apps that don't work i'll have to reinstall from scratch).

sound about right? any thoughts....
ahh and then there is fink and /sw to deal with.

old comp: ibook 600 g3 384 2.5 year old workhorse
new comp: pbook 1.5 g4 128vram 512 5400rpm combo flawless
me: happy camper

Use the clone hard drive feature. I think its under dive utilities or something on the panther disk. You are basically starting up one of the machines in target disk mode and completely copying the contents from one machine to the other.
