Today's updated Apple TV beta firmware brings a new look to the home screen, users note. This includes redesigned icons, as well as a thinner font. Both of the changes bring the look of the Apple TV closer to par with iOS 7, on which the firmware is based, but no extra changes apart from the last beta's Family Sharing and iCloud Photos support.

The Apple TV has lagged behind iOS and OS X devices in terms of interface. A total redesign has been rumored for much of this year, and could theoretically be unveiled this fall. It may however have to wait on new hardware, which has reportedly been pushed into 2015.

Apple needs to completely rebuild their AppleTV interface. It's grown into a mess of buttons. Given the number of Channels they need to provide FOLDERS to Group the Channels a la iOS. Plus, they need to create an iphone and iPad APP (not the Remote App they already have) which mimics what's being presented on the AppleTV screen. It's should be an iOS screen with all the requisite capabilities. The current interface reminds me of "Prodigy" or early AOL. It's iOS for GODs sake. You'd think they could make it work for them.

while they're at it, maybe they could redesign iOS to be easier to use too.

webraider: Amazon is planning its own set-top box, so of course it is not going to help Apple TV. I personally haven't been impressed with the free portion of Amazon Video so far.

Vintagegeek: I disagree that a complete rebuild is necessarily needed, but your folders (or some kind of groupings for channels I don't care about) is a great idea. You should suggest it to Apple.
