Can I flash an OEM PC Adaptec SCSI card to work on a Mac?

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can just buy an OEM PC Adaptec SCSI card (29160 or 39160) for super cheap, then just use the Firmware flash utilities provided by Adaptec?
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...ct%2fAPD-39160
I can pick up OEM Adaptec cards for $100 to $180, rather than buy a PowerDomain for $350 and $480 for the 29160 and 39160 respectively. Save myself $300 if I can just buy a PC SCSI card and flash it.
Anyone know if this can be done?
(Why not just use IDE? Becuase IDE doesn't have 360MB/sec of scrumptious data and 15,000 RPM HDs.)

I asked this question of Adaptec a year or so ago. They stated that the Mac versions of the SCSI cards have a larger ROM, and thus you couldn't flash a PC version to work properly. It might just trash the card.

You can't flash it, the MAC-Card has a larger ROM which is filled with Zeros. Adaptec did this to ensure that flashing will be impossible and thus sell the Mac-Card for more than the PC-Card.

...it is possible, it just requires you to replace the flash ROM with a larger version. Apparently there are some people who have managed to edit the ROM image and remove all the extraneous zeros to fit on the PC ROM, but you'd have to do some serious digging to find that ROM file. I'm sure its floating around somewhere on the net.
Anyhow, here are instruction if you are extremely techinically inclined to do such work.

The ROM is up for download on the link I provided. I'll take a look at it.
Maybe someone can confirm if the ROM on the 39160 is DIP or not. If it is, it's a $25 fix.
