Someone in my office just installed Quark 4.0 on Max OS 10.1, I use OS 9.2 and I'm not familar with 10. It launches and opens just fine under Classic.

Problem is that a document from the 9.2 w/Quark 4.0 won't open on the other machine. It was copied on a zip disc and transfered to the other machine. It open just fine off the disc on the first mac. The disc is formatted as a PC disc, that shouldn't be the problem.

Any ideas.
Thanks,

I was going to install 10.1 on my mac at home, but if I can't open my Quark files any longer, I can't.

If it was just installed, make sure when you 'Save' that you are saving in the appropriate version that can be read on both systems. In Quark 4, they started allowing you to 'back save'.

I use Quark 4.11 on OS 9.2.2 at work, and Quark 4.11 on OS 10.2.3 at home. The quark files work fine going back and forth, on both machines.

Update everything you can, at the minimum Quark to 4.11, I believe it's free.

I didn't check to see if what he installed was 4.0 or 4.1.

The File was saved as Version 4, not 3.3.

Also the icon is white, when I dbl-click the file, it lets me choose which application I want to open with. When I go the to the applications folder and select Quark, it's dimmed as if it doesn't even know it a quark file at all.

You either have to rebuild your desktop to get your icon back, or run Techtool (Drive 10 - OS X), or Norton. Or try opening the file from within Quark. Hope it works!!!

under the open with dialogue in os x there is an option to show suggested or ALL applications. (or something similar) select all and you can link to quark.

I have noticed this with text files saved in OSX and opened in OS9.2.2. There is no file type or creator code. I used techtool lite to enter type and creator and they open fine.

one thing you might want to try is to add a .qxd at the end of the filename..

I need to do that on quark docs that have been emailed to me many times.

I believe the resource fork data has been stipped from the file so the mac os has no idea what type of file it is..
adding a .qxd will make quark recognize the file..

Thanks for the ideas.
I won't be able to try those out until Monday.

I've had to do the .qxd on pc files to mac before, but not from mac to mac.
Some of the funny things from 9.2 to 10, I quess.

Thanks

You are completely right.

I help the journalism teacher at my high school. We got a new 1ghz G4 and have Quark 4.1 on there. We put it on a zip and makes all the files appear as PC files!

I need an answer here too! I will try the 4.1.1 update and see if that helps, but some reason I don't think it will....

I put the .qxd on the documents and that worked. Now all I have to do is install fonts. From what I've read, that's gonna to be a thrill.

Thanks
