Safari used to remember and enter my IDs and passwords for various websites. Very convenient. Since I installed 10.2.8, Safari no longer does this. I have reset Safari, dumped Safari preferences, run Keychain First Aid... nada. When you entered a password to access a site, Safari used to ask if you wanted it to use keychain to remember it.... no more.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know if 10.2.8 includes this, BUT the same thing happened to me after I installed the security update in 10.3. Don't look for sympathy on this board though. Everyone seems to think that you shouldn't rely on hardware or software to do what it is advertised to do. "You should never rely on machines"....or something... No many people seem to be caring about this issue. I guess me and you are the only two who use Passwords in Safari.

Ressurrecting a post from the distant past - 10.3.4 did this to me, and it's incredibly infuriating - did either of you ever fix it?

Look in the preferences. Perhaps new versions reset this option. (I never used this and just noticed it in the preferences a couple of weeks ago.)

Oh, do I wish it were that simple. I've completely reset Safari (using the built-in command, and manually by deleting the various directories/files it uses), reset the keychain, even tried a vanilla 10.3.4 system. Nothing. Oddly, it only occurs on *some* sites, which work fine on 10.3.3. Trying Safari 1.2 didn't help, so it's something in /System/Libraries/Frameworks or PrivateFrameworks.

Now to try and go back to 10.3.3. Any suggestions on how? The panther installer won't let me "Archive and Install" when a newer version is installed...

Are you sure it is not the site that has changed its coding?

If you view the source a lot of pages have autocomplete set to no (or somthing along those lines).

Nope, site works fine in 10.3.3, and it's not the only site. To give a couple examples (go ahead and try to log in, the 10.3.3 Safari will try and save your password, the 10.3.4 one won't):

https://www.bankone.com/bank/
https://www.mbnanetaccess.com/ (which redirects to a NASApp page)

What's really strange is that this page *does* work:

The two above are https and the one that works below is http. Maybe they changed it to not remember passwords on https sites.

Personally I wouldn't want my password to be remembered on my online banking site.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I thought the same at first, but then the Apple Developer Connection (https://connect.apple.com) worked fine, so I'm stumped. I'm just about ready to revert to 10.3.3 (as you probably saw in my other thread).

Well, that's why I like the keychain - as long as I keep my personal account on my machine secured, it's fine. No worries about what my bank does for its security, and the keychain is encrypted until you login. Finally, only authorized apps can get to it - it's very elegant, and serves my needs very well (except for this bug).

Glad I came to this thread! I thought I was going crazy. My problem is similar, but for me, sites which I had a password remembered on will no longer let me login even when I type in the information from a clear form. For example, Webmail at both my company and my ISP (both https). I tried repairing permissions (because I had never done that), but that didn't help. This all started to happen when I installed 10.3.4. This is Safari only. I am now forced to use IE if I want to access these sites. Frustrating! It does seem to be keychain-related...

Something is definitely screwy. I tried rebuilding my system with 10.3.3 using an Archive and Install. It was a lot more work than I expected, loading all of the updates again. When it was all done - the problem still existed! I'm completely stumped now, and it's very frustrating. I still think this is a Safari/Keychain/OS X issue as several sites broke immediately after moving to OS X 10.3.4.

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to either track this down or fix it?

How embarassing. It was that apparently the security update set my accept cookies to 'never.' I fixed the cookie access and I am fine. *doh*

Here’s a program, called Autocomplete Always On!, which will patch WebCore (Safari’s HTML engine) to ignore the flag.

Enjoy!
