I take my iBook to and from work every day and connect to the Windows network at work every morning. Sometimes, when I bring the iBook in the morning, the built-in SMB client won't connect to the network. Rebooting always solves the problem.
Console log follows:
FSMakeFSSpec=-43
userSelectedURL is smb://tpccompaq/tomdocs
smbfs: can't set locale ''
smbfs: can't get server address `tpccompaq':
Unknown host
smbfs: can't get server address: syserr = Network is down
I can ping the Windows network from the iBook, and my Samba shares on the iBook appear on the Windows network just fine, so the connection is good, despite the fact that it claims the "Network is down." I don't think that Samba isn't interfering with the SMB client - they work just fine together until this problem crops up; then I can restart and they'll work fine together again.
Any suggestions?
