How do I change sys disk icon?

I can't seem to change my sys disk icon. I'm in X, copy icon I want thru inspector then choose my disk, paste and nothing...

DO I need to boot of a CD to do this?

You used to be able to change the disk icons by logging into root but it seems in candidate releases, you can no longer do this, even as root. If someone knows the answer I 'd like to know.
