I have not yet received my aluminum iMac, but when I do if it has a screen gradient issue, is that covered by Applecare? If not, what are my recourses?

It all depends if you can convince the repair shop there is a problem. Why are you expecting an issue?

I'm not. I'm asking IF it does, will it be covered. Because it seems to be a fairly common problem. And yes, I know that people only post when there are problems, blah blah blah, but I just want to be sure.

I have a new 24" model and don't have any problems with the screen. Hopefully you new one won't have a problem either.

If it interferes with how the machine works and you can demonstrate it, they'll probably replace the computer. From what I've seen on my own aluminum iMac and what I've read, you pretty much have to look really, really hard to see it even when it's there. Take a deep breath and be ready to be thrilled by your new Mac-don't borrow trouble or you'll spoil the fun looking for flaws. If there are flaws, they'll make themselves obvious without you looking for them.

I just bought the new Imac today and it seems to be getting hot from the top. Is this a common problem as well?

The new iMac can get quite hot. I wouldn't worry.

Those slots at the top back of the unit are for the heat to escape. It's normal for it to be hot back there.

Ok, So the gradient thing is pissing me off. The bottom is SO washed out... and it seems that if I get a replacement, it will be the same. Should I just not even bother with Applecare and get together the money for a 24" iMac?

My 20" iMac barely shows the effect. I have to look carefully to see it, and in movies or other video content it is not at all noticeable. Assuming that all 20" iMacs will look horrible is not helpful-because it's not true. Get it replaced and see how the replacement looks.

Do you think if I took it into my local Apple Store that they could replace it then and there? Because I don't want to be without a computer for very long.

That all depends. If they have one on hand to replace it with, if they agree that the gradient is that noticeable, etc. It can't hurt to try.

Yes, 24" models are fine, but stay away from the 20" model, the TN panel they used in it is an absolute junk.

Problem with 20 inch iMac screen - colours washed out Silver Mac

I had my iMac for about 4 months and have sold it just about 2 weeks ago, I couldn't stand the screen. Now I'm on my 1.83 DC MBP until the new iMac comes out.
