On a nearly fresh install (I didn't launch Terminal first thing, but close to it), I'm getting the following message when I fire up a terminal window:

login: PAM Error: System error
[Process exited - exit code 1]

Furthermore, every time that happens, the following shows up in my console.log:

Aug 28 23:32:16 launchd[140]: 9: Security: PID 192 (ASID 0) was leaked into this session (ASID 88). This will be denied in the future.

Not a clue what's going on, other than some sort of security thing is unhappy. Changing Terminal preferences had no effect. Changing passwords also had no effect, but this looks more like process-id/permissions to me.

Any ideas?

Reinstall fixed it. Annoying, but at least I caught it pretty soon after the install, so not much time lost.
