Time for MacNN survivor. At the end only one person will have his posts seen.

This is so weird.
Is this a per-thread setting or forum-wide?

I think it's kind of unnecessary to keep it up at this point...

Why don't you just put me on ignore? That way your enjoyment will never end!

From your mention of "ignore" I'll assume you figured it out. Experiment ended.

Maybe this would work for non-regulars though, and maybe my MacNN experience has given me a false representation, because there are a ton of long time members here who know the history of this forum like the back of their hand.

besson3c had been on "shadow ban" since my above cryptic remark - all posts hidden, except to staff. An experienced MacNN'er took 5 days to notice, despite Laminar all but letting it out of the bag immediately.
I'm inclined to believe Laminar's position, that the pseudo-ban tricks are effective.

I'm not sure what the test proved though, because my point was that once the cat is out of the bag it will be pretty widely understood how this trick works, the cat was still in the bag here. Secondly, I'm slower than your average bear. Third, I didn't have any particular reason to think that there were cats in bags. Fourth, Laminar had sex with one of those bag cats.
However, since obviously this tool is an option for you guys, I say go nuts.

What I'd really like is a way to 100% put someone on ignore - not so you can click to view their posts, and not so that you can see their posts in others' quotes.
That'd be impossible, though.

This would be most helpful to my global assassination plans.
I foresee a few problems with implementation. Particularly with quotes.

You sure this hasn't been used before?

Yeah, exactly.
However...if the vBulletin theme were updated to include the quoted user's name in the blockquote tag, you could theoretically just make an adblock filter to hide it.

This should be a thing - every week someone else gets the shadowban and we all see how long it takes for anyone to notice.

Or for April Fools everyone gets a shadow ban and we see how long it takes for everyone to notice.

A nastier version of that joke would be to shadowban everyone, but only in the PWL.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
