Do any of you with a 17" Powerbook use it on your lap? If you do how does it feel? I had a 17" Powerbook but never used it that way, it always sat on a desk. I figure the 17" PB's size either makes it comfortable to have it on your lap or it's unwieldy.

Never had a problem. It's on my lap as I sit on the couch typing this.

I always found it a bit unwieldy/wobbly to use except on flat surface.

No problems really. But it is pretty big and getting up and moving around can be annoying.

I must be doing more CPU intensive surfing or whatever cuz my 17" gets pretty damn hot. So...I got me an iLap and all is good

Uber

P.S. I have no affiliation w/ the iLap makers, blah blah blah.

I find the area that gets hot (1.33Ghz) is the back left - most of the time its just warm. As to having children, you can keep your legs wider apart than with other laptops and, personally, I find the 17" more comfortable. I find it easier to have on my lap than a 12" iBook - which has less leg 'stretch distance'

The heat on the 17" does seem to be directed toward the rear - unless you are burning discs - in which case having it you lap is probably not the best idea anyway.

The 17 is cooler than iBooks or PB12s and 15s.

It's a lot cooler than my 12" PB.. I also had to get an iLap for that.

I find it to be very confortable. It's feels very light. The rear part of laptop (bottom, under the hinge) does get hot but not enough to bother me.

BTW, I have the 1.67 Ghz PB.
