Hi all,

I'm posting for my friend. Would y'all kindly look at the screenshot--see link below--of his PowerMac desktop and tell me/him what you think the source of the garbled lettering is?

In his own words...

On my PowerMac, the menu items (such as Mail, File, Edit, View etc.) on all apps and the file names for anything in Finder windows (except the list view), and the desktop have been replaced with A's inside a small square. If you click to rename the file, the original file name appears, but if you rename it, it goes all A in a square.

Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Uber

Thanks for responding, Detrius. Here's what my buddy had to say when I asked him to compare his System fonts contents on a "good" machine and his "bad" one in question.

Thanks. The inventory shows different, but not wildly different
fonts between good and bad machine. On a whim I pulled the bad
machines fonts to the desktop and replaced (the whole folder) in /
System/Library/ with the Fonts folder from the good machine.
Restarted. Nothing.

Funny, the only time I can see the file names in the finder is with
the detail view (not sure if this is the name...the one where you
toggle the triangle thang). When in that view in the Fonts menu, if
I scroll down to see more of the fonts, the window automatically
closes and brings up a new finder window in icon view at the root
level.

Another odd symptom, there's nothing in the Apple menu at the top
left. If I click it, it highlights like usual, but no drop down menu
appears.
