please help me.
i know there is a topic for finding bags.
But i need help finding a bookbag type - dual shoulder.
currently i have a Timbuk2 messenger bag. I love it, but I have a bad back, and the doctor said that i should not be using a messenger bag at all.
I will be selling it against my will on Ebay, so keep an eye out for it.
I want another timbuk2 because it is the most well made bag that i have ever had.
It is well worth the money.
Back to the story. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 17, so that means that searching is soooo hard.
I like nicer things and basically i cannot find a bag that I like that is worth the money.
There are only a few that fit. I am willing to spend the money, but I cannot find anything.
Please help me. I do not need a ton of space, but I like to carry alot of things sometimes.
I would like some space and pockets and good padded straps.
thank you for your help.

Brenthaven is by far the best backpack I've ever owned. Lifetime warranty, built like a tank, lots of pockets, low profile (doesn't scream "I have a laptop...mug me), amazing company, etc, etc, etc. I've carried my 17" MBP, external drives, iPods, cables, books, binder, digicam, and cables in mine all at one time, and the straps are very, very comfortable.

I perused every link on the permanent laptop bag thread for my 17" MBP and ended up with a Timbuk2 Tote plus a Spire "Meta" backpack; you probably would prefer the smaller "Volt XL." I bought the Meta because it provides absolutely maximum airline carry on size of 22x9x14 inches.

Spire USA: Products for Apple MacBook Pro 17"

The Spire backpacks expect you to put a sleeve in the pack. Although the packs price with sleeve included you can delete the sleeve and reduce the price by $30 when you go to order.

Sleeves I liked were

(1) the Timbuk2 Tote:
Timbuk2 Bags - Laptop Tote.

(2) the Tom Bihn Horizontal or Vertical Brain Totes:
The Vertical Brain Cell Laptop Bag by: TOM BIHN.

(3) the Incase sleeve marketed by Apple:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...lm=TJ589LL%2FA.

(4) It is easy enough to make your own sleeve.

My second backpack choices were

• the Tom Binh products:
Cases, Sleeves, and Bags for the 17" MacBook Pro: TOM BIHN.

• Timbuk2 backpacks:
Timbuk2 Bags - Backpacks.

• I agree that the Brenthaven looks to be an excellent product. The only reason it was not my choice above is because I wanted a sleeve for daily use plus a backpack for travel.
Pro 15/17 Backpack for the MacBook Pro at BRENTHAVEN..

Note that 17" MBPs are a bit different than 17" PBs, and that does affect the fit on a few products.

Cheapest (and best stealth solution) is to buy one of the "Brain Totes" above and then just stick the tote into any old cheap backpack that is big enough. The Brain Totes have a hard as well as soft plastic lining, making them perfect to just toss into any other container.

I used a setup like that when I was in an urban/student environment. Now I just buy everything in black (camera cases, computer cases, packs) and toss them into the back of my Suburban with the two black labradors. The windows are tinted and anyone trying to look in sees nothing but black, some of it alive...
