I don't have a credit card, but I have my bank debit card, which I can use like a credit card, i.e., without having to enter a pin, I can do stuff like order online, like from amazon, etc, and the card itself has a little visa logo on it.
But will it work for at&t, like the whole credit check thing? Do I need more than my bank check card?

It worked for a lot of people with the first iPhone, I don't see how it would differ now.

Some merchants and their terminals are getting smarter: since their costs are lower with PIN-based transactions, some terminals will auto-sense what kind of card it is and automatically show a PIN pad. A customer has to cancel out and choose to process it as credit, if that's what they want. Other terminals, however, ring it up as a credit anyway just to save time (think many fast food places).
AT&T probably processes as credit, but if you have troubles, this is one thing to double-check.

I used my card from my bank without any issues. They run it as credit.
