Hi,

have a look at this site: http://www.huynh.de/produkte/produkte-colocation.html (it's a german hoster). But as far as I can see, you have to bring your own server with you. They only offer the infrastructure for it. Cost per month for a Xserve: 109,- (that's neraly the same in $)

I've been looking into Dedicated XServe hosting for a while, the cheapest I've found is $275/month - http://www.xpowerhosting.com./dedicated.htm - with a $500 setup fee. Several others are in the $300/mo range (e.g. http://www.xservhosting.com/services/dedicated.php & http://www.hostsolutions.com/colocat...ededicated.php ), with smaller setup fees... one or two at almost $400/mo ( http://www.cybercon.com/dedicated_mac.html )... then you start getting into the ones who apparently haven't realized yet that there's now some competition in this area and are still asking for over $500/mo.

It is definitely cheaper if you buy your own XServe and co-locate... co-location can be found for less than $200/mo.

PS. If I remember correctly, these are all US-based.

you should also looking at buying a g4 from apple and co-locating it yourself. the rates for this are commonly in the $125 range per month...

it pays for itself within a year.

just something to think about...

Does anyone here have any first-hand experience dealing with xpowerhosting.com for webhosting (either dedicated, colo, or shared - doesn't matter, just wondering about the company). In looking for good xserve dedicated hosting, I was given a tip to "think twice" before going with xpowerhosting.com, but wasn't given any details.

Since they are the "low cost" option of the places I'm considering, they seem like a good option since our budget is tight. So, any stories of experiences with this company, good or bad, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Make sure you can get access to your co-located machine.

You'll probably be limited to 2 specific pre-designated people. Good co-location is also secure co-location.

Being charged $75 for 'technical assistance' because you need your server rebooted is just part of the co-location game.

Anytime those 'technicians' have to lift a finger - they charge you a half hour minimum.

Does the co-location facility do daily backups for you?

Are you allowed any 'free reboots'?

Is the facility staffed 24/7 - or can you only talk to real person weekdays 9-5?

If I'm not mistaken, an X-serve (and any other decent server) can be remotely administered even if the OS is not functional. This will let you reboot the machine remotely.
