Gulf Air has become the
latest carrier to adopt the new standard of using
iPads to replace traditional "flight bags" of required navigational maps and charts. The principle flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain will purchase a total of 355 iPads to use in the airline's fleet, and will save fuel as well as modernize traditional route, weather and navigational material previously carried on every flight. The program is a partnership with carrier Viva Bahrain.
"We are proud of our existing strategic relationship with Viva Bahrain and pleased to extend this partnership to include the provision of iPad devices as part of Gulf Air's Electronic Flight Bag project," said Gulf Air Acting CEO Maher Salman Al Musallam. At the same announcement ceremony on Sunday, the airline's director of information technology, Dr. Jassim Haji, added that "at Gulf Air we always endeavor to leverage the latest technologies ... this collaboration ensures we deliver the latest technology to our team and, as a result, to our passengers."
Super Monkey Ball Bounce soft-launches in Canada
A new game has been added to the
Super Monkey Ball franchise, and will debut on iOS devices this summer. Sega has announced a new variation on the adventues of AiAi and the rest of the monkeys entitled
Super Monkey Ball Bounce. The game, currently available only in the Canadian iTunes App Store, lets players "bounce, slide and rebound your way through jungles, volcanoes and glaciers."
The app will arrive in the US sometime this summer, but is being "soft launched" in Canada to test and tweak the game ahead of a worldwide debut. The company says the game takes its inspiration from Pachinko, but will remind most players of the popular
Peggle series, which also takes its foundation from the classic eastern arcade game. There are separate iPhone and
iPad versions, both of which currently sell in Canada for $1.
