or press it when it is slightly elevated above a reflective surface, and then it will look like: 1) a UFO, or 2) those funky cars with the light bars underneath so, now if you could only put those little wheels on it, then......

I showed this to a windows user and the fact that the lights are built into the battery itself. Priceless.

I'm not laughing at you. I've had my 12" pb for over 8 months. A friend of mine who's only had his a few weeks pointed it out to me a couple of days ago . I had no idea. I'd only been under there to fit some ram when I first bought the machine. Nice touch. Pointless, but nice.

a friend of mine has had an 800 mhz tibook since they came out, and he didn't notice it until i pointed it out to him a couple weeks ago. despite never having noticed this, he was jealous that my albook displays the lights differently than his tibook.

Not really as pointless as it may seem. I have two batteries for when I travel. I charge dead batteries when I have layovers and I normally don't get a full charge. So I end up with batteries with various charges and it's nice to know a rough estimate of your spare battery's life without having to pop it into your PB.

That's about the only time I ever looked at the underside, just after buying it to open it up and put a stick of ram in. Otherwise it doesn't travel much as it's pretty much a desktop replacement.

I've used Macs for over 10 years but when I got my 12" PB...
a) I didn't notice the lights and button on the battery for 3 months
b) I thought what turned out the be the microphone was a reset hole! I'm spending too much time using my Palm I guess! Thank God I didn't stick a paper clip in there.

well, the whole battery light thing made more sense on the Pismo, when the lights were on the side where you could see them.
But still useful.
