My battery qualified for the recall, so I went ahead and removed it.
But then waking the computer didn't work, a very faint sleep light just kept going. I put the battery back and things were back to normal. (Yes, I was plugged in.)
I've had similar trouble before: often, when my battery runs out and the mac decides to sleep, there's a one minute wait after plugging in - it seems it can only operate on battery juice.
A power manager reset didn't alleviate the situation, so I should get the PB fixed. Has anyone experienced a similar situation?

You could try a different power adaptor or power outlet first.

IIRC this happens at work, too, where I have a second adaptor. But I'll doublecheck first, thx.

this happened to me yesterday, as well.
i had removed my battery an hour earlier.
woke my pb, and could not move the cursor, or use the keyboard.
i rebooted, and no problem since...

With me, it seems that only the APPLE adaptor works - my Kensington does not give the unit enough power to operate.

Yeah, I did that.
I'm wondering could I have fried something last summer, when I used an inverter to pull power from a boat's 12V system (solar etc.) and the voltage probably fluctuated a lot? Hmm.

my issue (see above) may have been because i was using an ibook ac adapter; at my desk, i have a powerbook ac, and this one works fine (w/o the battery)....

Hmm, my wife has a 12" PB and we have been happily mixing, uh, adapters for years, so I have no idea which is where. Iteration time, I guess. Thx for the tip.
