Welcome to page 2. For those keeping score, so far:
Eric Claptons sucks
Mark Knopfler is unfunky
Steve Vai makes people puke
Joe Satriani is a talentless thieving hippie
Rage Against the Machine, CKY, Linkin Park, and Queens of the Stone Age make people feel sorry for their fans
Bonus: Sean Connery is old

Bess, I don't know how you can listen to that. It just sounds like amateurs practising on band night to me.
Each to his own, I guess.

There are a lot of good guitarist out there, but very few great, IMO. Even if he is on the road down, Eric Clapton is one of the great.
Les Claypool is the best bass player. There is no room for argument on this.

Sometimes jazz does sound like that, but I often find myself bored with prefabricated performances that sound the same each time and where the band takes very few chances. I need to be surprised.

I don't like labels like "best" when it comes to music, because obviously this is subjective, but I will point out another very good bass player: Jaco Pastorius

I think we've read enough of each others' posts to find this not terribly surprising.

Even Doofy gets it right every once in a while.
(Though I suspect your being a hippy has nothing to do with it: I believe Doofy *knows* I'm a hippy, and I don't think he hates me...)

Are you trying to tax me? No.
Then I don't hate you. Simple as that.
analog, yes I reckon you're a bit of a hippie. You remind me of a guy I used to play with about 15 years back. He was a hippie too and as far as I can remember, you even look a bit like him. We got on like a house on fire. Apart from his smack habit which I wasn't too keen on.
Bess, I don't think you're a hippie. I think you're a bit weird, but then the fact that you're Canuckistani and into jazz explains all that away quite nicely. I just don't understand your humour (and I reckon you probably don't understand mine).
I actually like the vast majority of folks here (if I didn't I wouldn't bother being here), even though I may have a few little spats with some of the more bottle-raised amongst you. All said and done we'd all get along great if we went down the pub to sink a few.
Right then. Off to the hugs thread for a big group hug.

Doofy: who else isn't a hippy other than you, just out of curiosity? Is that woman in your signature (I'm assuming it is a woman) a hippy? Or, is that picture a man with breast implants? Since we know for sure that you're not a hippy and that you wouldn't put a picture of a hippy in your signature, maybe that picture is you with breast implants?
edit: Doofy doesn't think I'm a hippy, so that picture could be me too, with breast implants.

My mom. Although just lately I've had my suspicions.

Doofy, while we're at it, since you don't hate me, maybe you could start calling me by my real name "besson3c", and not "Bess"?

No.
That's like four extra characters, with one of them being a stretch to the numbers line. If I wanted hard work and stretch like that for my fingers I'd be playing Malmsteen runs.

Lots of good stuff here, thanks! My not-quite-three-year-old daughter likes Jaco the best, and didn't care much for Stevie, for what it's worth. And I do "get" Mark Knopfler, and Dire Straits stuff is on my A-list.
I think I'm developing quite an odd taste in music, especially as I get older. I used to love fast, shredding guitars like Stevie has, but now that I'm older they just don't do it for me anymore. Maybe I'm just too tired to appreciate it?
So what is Clapton's stuff isn't as good now that he's rich, not doped up, and not lusting after his best friend's wife? We still have his old stuff to listen to, and that's good enough for one lifetime. Anything more of quality we get out of him is a bonus.

I can understand that. But if that's the case, why do you keep repeating the same lame jokes over and over again?
