1) Genie effect is faster
2) Expose is snappier

The two things that worried me in tiger are no longer a problem. So far so good.

Safari seems noticeably quicker, rendering and scrolling. Firefox banished from my dock for now.

Q:

Can anyone report on the Airport drop-out-after-wake/spinning beach ball of death on PowerBooks? I had this happen with my DL 15", but reinstalled the OS, less some apps, and it works fine. I'd like to know if this has a nice li'l blanket fix.

Thanks.

It seems great but does anyone use those mini stat dashboard widgets?

Seems with 4.1 and 4.2 the cpu heat monitor was reporting 19 - 20c, now with 4.3 reports 47c...

19-20C is a bit cool for CPU 47 sounds more realistic.

Yay!!! They FINALLY fixed SMB!!!! This has been broken for most of my Unix SMB servers since 10.4 was first released, and none of the recommened fixes (eg, encrypted passwords) were any help at all.

I can now do normal GUI file transfer again, without having to resort to iTerm and "scp". This is a MAJOR fix for me, and probably many others.

i can't believe how much faster safari feels after the update. web pages load in a blink, still not as fast as my Windows machine but definitely noticable.

strange i never had any problems with any of the previous 10.4's. I move
files around all day via GUI over SMB to and from windows file servers
on our LAN. My home LAN works fine too. (2 macs 1 PC)

interesting how one person has so much trouble with some feature and someone
else has none. Things that make you go hmmm...

down load nightshift and get the nightly builds and you will REALLY see a jump.
As well as a chance to see the dev logs where they say how speed was increased
by such and such fix. They even post the % gain from their internal benchmarks.

very cool

It's strange but it's true...

For the longest time, my Thinkpad laptop could see my 2x800MHz G4 but my girlfriend's Inspiron couldn't see it. For awhile I kinda ignored what people were saying about Samba thinking my computer was ok and that maybe my girlfriend's computer was messed up but now I think I'm pretty sure it was the good ol' Samba bugs in OS X. Why? 'cuz now my girlfriend's laptop see my Mac perfectly.

all is well here, and everything seems a good bit snappier too
Personally I find it hilarious that you have the hots for my gramma. Especially seeins how she is 3x your age, and makes your Brittney-Spears-wannabe 30-something wife look like a rag doll who went thru WWIII with a burning stick of dynamite up her a** :)

is anyone else having weird artifacts on the corners of their itunes?I thought it might be my shapeshifter, but i reverted to aqua, and they were still there. I reinstalled itunes and the artifacts were still there, but different....they were sort of transparent. i just reapplied an SS theme and they're back.

Thats only a minor problem tough....Everything is much "snappier" I will admit, but my fans are blowing like CRAZY now! My G5 use to be silent, and now it sounds like an airplane ready to take off! I checked activity monitor to view the CPU usage, but the system was 96-97% idle... Anyone one else experience this? BTW, this is the first time I've ever had a problem with any Os X update.

Original G5 Dual 2.0
1gb Sdram
23" ACD
ss installed.
it worked fine under 10.4.2...

I had the exact same problem with my fans blowing on my iMac G5 (rev. A) after installing the 10.4.3 update...no amount of restarting or shutting down seemed to help either.

I solved it by shutting down, and then unplugging the iMac from the wall for 10 seconds. Booted up quietly after that.

Hope that helps...

No update to the Adaptec kernel extensions. 10.4.3 on my Sawtooth with an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card continues to cause kernel panics when the attached burner is turned on. Adaptec290X-2930.kext is still dated 20 Feb 02.

Thanks a lot MacAttack, I'll give that a try. Its strange, I checked the CPU temperature, and they're about normal. (A: 117ºF/50ºC B: 105ºF/43ºC) I searched some other threads about typical G5 temps, and I'm well within the range...Maybe this increased performance is due to some sort of increase in CPU "output"??? I really hope this works, because the noise is ridiculous! I might have to trade up for a Quad...(only in dreams)

Yes, I don't usually get those bugs that only affect some users and not others. But I sure got the Samba one. In fact All my Macs got it, my brother's Macs all got it, but most of my colleagues did not get it. It has been exceptionally irritating ever since 10.4 was released.

I was starting to wonder sometimes if it was just that I'd screwed something up, but that didn't make sense. With the fix included in 10.4.3, I'm much relieved!

10.4.3 killed my "Mail Tags" in Mail. Others are reporting same issue at Apple Discussions. Shame... I've become quite dependent on it. Oh well... Hopefully a fix will come.

I have been using the nightlies. Seems like this Safari update is now just as fast. You might give it a try.

If that's true, use the Debug menu to change Safari browser string to WinIE6.

Most of those sites actually do work with other browsers, if you trick it by setting the user agent to MSIE. The creators are just too oblivious to know it.

The only thing I've come across that absolutely did not work with anything but MSIE was a field for setting an appointment date for an interview at a US Consulate.

I noticed the down scroll button on my Logitech MX510 is still pulling up the app-switch menu (or whatever you call it), a bug introduced in 10.4.2. It still doesn't look like there's a way to fix that in Sys Preferences.

god that is driving me nuts, I was trying to work out why that is and! now another one popped up.
With the MX1000 is I shift the scroll wheel to the left it pops up spotlight, like (command + spacebar)

The only way I can stop it currently is to map the buttons to expose for now, but once you unsign them the problem is back :/

Looks like the dashboard entry won't take them but the other 3 will, the one that brings up the task switcher and spotlight.

when will we get the ability to open safari to a bookmarks folder?
would be nice to set a folder to open in tabs as the default "home page"...

(i know i can do this with an applescript, and have...but would like to see this in prefs!)

Probably never, though it would be an added feature I would use.

For me, it's been GREAT. Run, don't walk to this update! My PowerBook had been sluggish all morning, and bam! it's like it got a speed pill. Same with the wife's iMac. Finally, a great update. No fancy Mouses or weird third party hax.

for me, happily, the weird mouse & hacks work great!
shapeshifter, fruitmenu, cleardock, mightymouse (the app, not the mouse); and my kensington mouse prefs...

10.4.3 did not break IE. msn.com did, about a week ago. You have to change your home page. See the other thread for details.
