I dunno, man, it's still only 7-ish on the West Coast, where Apple and E3 are.. Or am I just being pathetic 'cause I have a car for the day?

Whoops. Sorry. Force of habit.
We've still got Wednesday of this week... I'm expecting a full-blown planned to-do on Apple's part, though, so I'm agreeing with Mr. Wanker on "the next few weeks."

If we don't see anything by 12 EST, I don't think it's going to happen today.

Come over to the Dark Side.... ok ok i'm replacing my 12" Rev B PB with a 15" Refurb MBP. I couldn't pass it up. I love the new machine, but if the 13" is decent WHENEVER it comes out, I'll probably sell the 15 and buy it.

Not until 10.00 am PST. Usually, things get announced around that time, right ?

Let me know how the MBP runs (specifically for lap use ). I'm on that fence myself...

Let's wait a week
Apple must have seen so many of us gossiping they waited to make sure they can supply all of us with shiny black beauties so far untouched by Robert De Niro.

I wonder if anyone's died of old age yet waiting for the iBook/MacBook. I have to say that this is the longest wait I ever remember for any particular Mac.

Fake. If you look, the pictured 'MacBook' has a latch on the top of the display, but the front row sensor is in the way of where the latch release button would be. Also, where it says 'All MacBook models also include...' it says optical digital and anologue audio in/out - very doubtful for the MacBook, but it also says 'mono speaker' - showing this page has been modded from the original mac mini core s/d page

If there is any stock put into the rumor sites, then it would have to be fake--that's hardly a redesign. Besides, the "portability reinvented" is too clunky a slogan for Apple to use. (He says, but anticpates Apple using it to spite him.)

Combo drive in a Mac for over a grand, yeah sure. We will never see combo drives again unless Apple goes gaga.

Supposedly the MacBook Pros are fine on your lap once you replace the thermal paste.
Don't know if I'd try that in fear of voiding my warranty, though.

I'm a strong believer in AppleCare. I've used it on my current portable a few times. So I won't be opening any machine I purchase.
I'm also not convinced that the thermal paste fix cools the bottom of the MBP down. I've seen some debate about that in various forums.

I have a feeling that in 2006 we are reaching the peak of the phenomenon known as "Mac release rumor frenzy." After this MacBook is released, we will slowly begin to realize that these are little more than metrosexual ThinkPads. The mystery will be gone, and the aforementioned MRRF will begin to lessen with each successive product release.

They're very tempting and only $1699 for a refurb (the high end of my price range). I'm still holding out too, though. Hang in there. I think I'll be happier with something smaller and plastic.

Same here. I wouldn’t mind a MacBook Pro in itself, but I don’t want a 15" screen – I want my 13" widscreen, darnit!
This is killing me. My G3 iBook (that I’m typing on right now) is just dying to be replaced.

Upon the release of the new MacBooks... anyone have any suggestions on whether a Duo is worth money vs. a solo processor? I'm looking to buy three new MacBooks for my old college buddies, two of them are going over seas and this would be a good way to stay in touch. For us to use the iSight and have video conferencing, would the solo work fine?
Anyone with ideas of pricing for the MacBook Solos, I saw $999, $1099, $1299, $1399...

It looks like a Core Solo is just fine, even if you want to be the host for a multiperson video iChat.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/ichat/
4-Person Video Conference
To Initiate (Host): Dual 1GHz G4, any G5 or Intel Core, 384Kbps Internet connection (up/down)
To Participate: 1GHz G4, dual 800 MHz G4, any G5, or any Intel Core, 100Kbps Internet connection (up/down)
That's assuming it gets the built-in iSight of course.

It's exactly what I paid for my refurb TiBook back in February 2003. I'd have one right now if it was lap-usable. I'm just a-waitin' for the smaller plastic non-pro model to see what it's all about. I haven't ruled out an MBP yet though.

Rumor is that Apple is waiting another week because of supply problems. I can't believe this. Apple has often enough announced a product which wasn't available for a few weeks. People would order one anyway, so what's the advantage of having plenty of stock, compared to the disadvantage of pissing so many of us off?

The advantage is that so many potential mac buyers won't have a clue about the MacBook, only a small %age actually read forums like this, and rumour sites, so when the product is announced, it will 'piss off' the average consumer that they can't have it for X amount of weeks, whereas waiting and waiting to announce it is only pissing off a few (in comparison) mac nerds

If so, I wonder if the iBook G4 is still selling well. Any potential buyer who does not live in the desert will get the advice from a colleague that the current iBooks are hopelessly outdated. Many a buyer might as well get a PC, so if they knew that there was a MacBook soon they would probably hold off longer.
