Apple probably should start choosing non-cat names or they'll risk not having an interesting name to call it in the future. IMO they have already used up the interesting cat names. It might be better to not have a name but I guess that would make it rather impersonal. I've always referred to the OS as the number such as 10.3 or 10.4 rather than the name...or is that just me? Do you guys actually use the animal name when you talk about different apple OS versions?

The poll is flawed. OS X has been using the names of ‘big cats’; lynxes and ocelots are a step down the ladder. ‘Feline’ doesn't make any sense, at all.

Let's face it, there aren't that many big cat names left. In fact, ‘Lion’ is about the only thing left that makes sense, even though it has the distinct disadvantage of being too cuddly, thanks to ‘The Lion KIng’, ‘Lippy the Lion’ and all sorts of other anthropomorphic characters. ‘Cougar’ would not be a good idea, either, as they've already used ‘Puma’.

Personally, I think they should abandon the big cat naming custom entirely, and switch over to venomous spiders.

The list is missing a few:
Jaguarundi, Margay, Serval and Caracal. There are others too but they all have names like Southeast Asian Fishing Cat which is just too long.

Puma, Cougar, Panther, and Mountain Lion are the same thing. Puma's been done so the other 3 should be out.

Technically a Snow Leopard is a different cat than a Leopard, but who cares?

Just for the record there are several big cats in North America besides Cougars: Lynx, Bobcats and even Jaguars and the occasional Jaguarundi.

Sure, a Bobcat may not be as huge as a Siberian Tiger but they do take down deer and sheep so it's not exactly a house cat either. Kind of a lame name though.

I say we switch to stripper names: Diamond, Cheyenne, Candy, Destiny, Raven, Jade, etc.
conveys good looks, user friendly, full of engineered add-ons.

Usually, any marketing move (and calling an OS after animals is one) runs out of freshness in a very short time, and it wouldn't fit a company like Apple, who is proud of being creative, to continue this zoo naming much longer.

I guess Leopard will be the last cat of the collection.
