I admire their persistence.

I imagine they're trying to ride the good PR from WIndows mobile and Kinect.

I wonder how many people will ask if their Kin "works with Kinect"

This is definitely not a move by Microsoft, the Kin website shows no mention of this. I'm guessing it's a holiday push by VZW to get rid of stock.

So, um, anybody ever heard anything from the Kin again after the Big Re-Launch?

I don't. I feel bad for the company and its employees, because Ballmer runs it into the ground. They're not even part of the discussion in the new markets. The upper management leaves in droves. And sending conflicting messages to customers and partners (e. g. Ballmer's comments on Windows (non-Phone) running on tablets and perhaps even phone-like devices this January).

It's so easy to bash Microsoft these days that fewer and fewer people are doing it -- they just took all the fun out of it

They actually sold out of them. I hate to admit it, but for $120 off contract for even the Kin 2, I think that there were enough people who figured it'd be a decent enough back up phone to bite the bullet. $120 is much cheaper than even VZW's worst featurephone off contract.

How come Ballmer is still the CEO? It must be obvious to their Board that he is making all the wrong decisions. He has no vision about future trends in ICT. He wasn't even invited at Obama's ICT CEO dinner.

you might take this as the list of the most important and influential people in IT of 2011 :

John Doerr, Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

• Carol Bartz, President and CEO, Yahoo Inc.

• John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Cisco Systems Inc.

• Dick Costolo, CEO, Twitter Inc.

• Larry Ellison, Co-Founder and CEO, Oracle Corp.

• Reed Hastings, CEO, Netflix Inc.

• John Hennessy, President, Stanford University

• Steve Jobs, Chairman and CEO, Apple Inc.

• Art Levinson, Chairman and former CEO, Genentech Inc.

• Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO, Google Inc.

• Steve Westly, Managing Partner and Founder, The Westly Group

• Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Facebook Inc.

Pretty simple: they couldn't find a more talented monkey.

Someone should have told M$ that hiring a human being is an option, too

I think you missed a key part of that last line, in the bay area.

Otellini is clearly important and influential (Obama just put him on some jobs committee), but isn't in the bay area and also didn't get the invite.
