I'm using Disk Utility to create an encrypted disk image from a folder (FIle>New>Disk Image from Folder), selecting 128-bit encryption; I use a long passphrase with mixed upper- and lowercase and letters and numbers. For Image Format I've tried both "compressed" and "read/write."

The problem is that once the disk image is created, it mounts without asking for a password, as if it wasn't encrypted at all.

Any ideas what's going on?

Can it be that the Keychain is storing the password? What happens if you log in as another user and try to open the image?
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

When you encrypt the file there is a check box which is checked--"save password in keychain." So if you don't uncheck that box, it will open automatically.
