I saw that ATI has released their new 9800 mobility card. Is that something Apple could just "swap in" to their current lineup or is it something that will require a new motherboard revision?

It's integrated into the motherboard. Don't expect it until the next PB rev.

So, maybe that will give Apple a chance to soften a bump on the way to the G5 next year. They could give us the new video card and maybe one of the new dual layer DVD writers. That wouldn't be all bad.

i think they will either speed bump the G4 powerbook at mwsf or release the G5 powerbooks then, the former is probably more likely. A faster G4, the radeon mobility 9800, and dual layered dvd writing capabilities, sounds like a sweet upgrade to me

oh, OT but since I just remembered, I remember reading an article that said dual-layered writing might be possible with a firmware update on some burners...was there ever anything more on that?
