I wasn't going to post here since I had created that other thread asking for suggestions about Growl styles, but acronym thought I should, so here we go:

Alright, here's the deal. This all can change (i.e. some things in your plugin can break if you make a style).

You can download the beta of Growl 0.7 at http://growl.info/beta.html

It has networking and a status icon and all sorts of neat stuffs.

Also (and more on topic for this forum), there is a webkit style system in place as well.
The webkit style howto for Growl is at http://growl.info/documentation/webkit.php

This is a screen shot from a friend a few days ago. He was just learning the style format so don't judge the screen shot that much.

The drop shadow problem is fixed in B4. You can have it optionally.

The spongebob on the right, and lcd, are both Growl displays made with Webkit.

A forum user on the Growl forums posted two of his own screen shots:

There will be hosting of these styles somewhere when we release .7, so if you start on a theme now don't worry about where to host. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised at who is going to host though, as the folks over at resexcellence are great and have been super responsive.

oops, did I let that out of the bag?!?!

For anyone who has made a style, please submit it to http://www.resexcellence.com/upload/

just on the subject of Growl... why does it inclue the Mail Notification Script as well as GrowlMail? they both do the same thing right? why go to the bother of installing the GrowlMail bundle when you can just use the Notification Script?

Actually, they do different things. Personally I would never use the script and always use GrowlMail. That's because I have 5 imap accounts and over 25 rules setup. For someone wanting to be notified of just something in one folder, they would want to use the script. For someone wanting to easily configure mail and use it for multiple folders, then you use GrowlMail.

GrowlMail also has a lot of other options the scripts do not.

Hey Tick, is it possible to stop some of the Notification styles from stacking up? I ask because I use the crystal style to display iTunes changes through Quicksilver, and they stack up if I skip several tracks. But I'd like them to just act 'normal', like the bezel interface I mean.

Hope you understand that, made a mess of the explanation, must be the stuff the nurse just pumped into my arm...

Hey you know what's really, really annoying about GROWL? Let me change MY freaking font size, for the love of God. None of the large, small crap. I want customization. I edited a css stylesheet but it just for some reason would show my text that large.

How can I move it to the middle of the screen? I'm about 40ft away when I change itunes tracks (via tv remote) and I want to see the song that i switched to.....

And another thing, when installing an new growlstyle (by double clicking) it asks me if i want to customize it immediately and then hitting yes takes you to the PANE but doesn't show the new style ( you have to QUIT the system preferences.) what is the POINT of this?

Please file tikcets on http://trac.growl.info/trac for each of these issues. I will tell you now though that we are very aware of the one where you move it around, and the reason why it's taking so long is that we need each of the display styles to be aware of where everything else is on screen, making it more complicated.

Actually, I went ahead and made all the tickets for what you were talking about:

http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/356
http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/357
http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/358
http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/359

This one is on positioning, and is already created:

http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/36

It is sort of dependent upon this:
http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/39

And this:
http://trac.growl.info/trac/wiki/GrowlSourceCleanup

I went ahead and made this one too:
http://trac.growl.info/trac/ticket/360

I've marked these all for .8 of Growl, but there is no guarantee that they will make it for that, we have this much to do still:
http://trac.growl.info/trac/milestone/0.8

The good news is that .7.2 is almost done:
http://trac.growl.info/trac/milestone/0.7.2

Hope this helps, Growl is still not 1.0 for a reason

Is it just my copy of safari growl, or does clicking on the growl alert not show the file in the finder?

Can that be added as a feature?

Love growl! Love how you guys seem to work with the Adium team to keep us up to date too!

Okay I await the new build of growl, tick, can you also please give "us" designers access to the defauilt styles? Please don't hardcode them. As I'd really like to modify the music video overlay so I can see it from 6 feet away.

I also used synergy instead of growltunes, because it allowed me to only show the bezel overlay when an applescript told it to (AKA a button on my keyspan remote) So now a giant bezel overlay only shows when I'm using my keyspan remote not when I'm working at the computer.
