'Today' Reporter Paddles in Shallow Water
Oct 14 5:25 PM US/Eastern

NEW YORK

If Michelle Kosinski's canoe had sprung a leak on NBC's "Today" show Friday, she didn't have much to worry about.

In one of television's inadvertently funny moments, the NBC News correspondent was paddling in a canoe during a live report about flooding in Wayne, N.J. While she talked, two men walked between her and the camera _ making it apparent that the water where she was floating was barely ankle-deep.

Matt Lauer struggled to keep a straight face, joking about the "holy men" who were walking on water.

"Have you run aground yet?" Katie Couric asked.

"Why walk when you can ride?" Kosinski replied.

Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.

"It's not like we were trying to pass it off as something it wasn't," spokeswoman Lauren Kapp said.

We have reached a critical desalinization point.

yes this is a silly thread but it illustrates how the old line media is trying to scare everyone about the weather.

Who cares what the media says about global warming?

My favourite is: "who cares what scientists say about global warming?"

I don't think it was "over-sensationalized," but was more-or-less to prove a point. It had been raining for, what, about 8-10 days straight? This after near-drought conditions during the summer? Even if the water was "only" 3-6 inches deep, that is no small matter. The water was much deeper in some areas, by many accounts. Meteorologically, this is a major anomaly.

I like the term anomaly. It fits well in this perspective. However, I suppose such anomalies are happening once in a while. They may get exceptional when the downpour is sudden and of an extreme density like we had in Quebec a few years ago, when a whole town saw houses carried away from torrents created by the rain in a matter of minutes.

this link shows the new sediment layer created right after the flood in the bay. But the area is also by a lake so everywhere, a lot of sediments were carried away very quickly in the des Ha! Ha! bay.

That was a monstrous anomaly.

I am looking forward to see the geological reports of New Orleans' area and see what they have to say.

This is the political lounge- let's make this story political.

The proper light to consider this story in is this:

Last week, we had media bleating about how Bush 'staged' a conversation with troops.

This week, we have NBC staging a shot to exaggerate flooding.

Pot, meet Kettle at the least. Stones, glass houses, at the most.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Karl & Monkey....

I'll repeat just for you

"We have reached a critical desalinization point.
lol...

lol"

Its a stupid non story over a stupid non issue, NBC got caught sensationilizing this, if you watch the footage that day earlier in the same program (I saw it on Hannity & Colmes on Fox News) you hear Matt Lauer & Katie rambling about the rash of storms being "indicative" of Global Warming..... then later they do this sequence:

que the canoe and ...

viola! global pandemic of weather catastrophies!.... er....well at least until the guys walk by.

LOL
LOL
LOL

Again, its silly, the entire thing is silly... relax ok?

I have news for you, the world is not ending... The sun will rise tomorrow....

so.... just enjoy the beautiful fall day that it is.
