Not what you're looking for, but...

Virginia Tech to upgrade supercomputer to Xserve

Asked what would become of the 1,100 PowerMac G5 computers being retired, Varadarajan said: "We're working on getting them very good homes."

More announcements to come today I hope...

Not if it's just a Power Mac speed bump. For an iMac G5 in a new case they would though.

Hmmm... 8:20 am PST and the Apple Store is still up. If there were an update, when does it go down? 8:30? 9:00?

When they've previously done the morning announcements its usually happened before I woke up. And I wake up around 6am pacific time.

I don't think anything is coming today.

I could hardly see Apple adding footage to the 1984 commercial of todays date for a friggin' speed bump.

It's my birthday today and I'd love Apple to give me a present by dropping the prices of the current crop of PowerBooks so my wife can order me one.

The G4 powerbook will be so last year....this time next fall.

Besides, they wont be dropping any powerbook prices until the $700 trade-up program has vanished, March 28-ish.

That's logical, but Apple has been known to defy conventional wisdom in the past.

So... Back on topic. Maybe we'll see updates tomorrow? January 28, 2002 Apple released updates as well as January 28, 2003 so maybe this is the new trend?

On saturday, I was waiting for the new Apple hardware update when suddenly.... nothing happened.

Then on Tuesday I was waiting again for the announcement and without missing a beat nothing was annouced!

All this excitement is doing nothing for me. Again and again and again.

When will nothing happen again? Just you wait!

If Apple is going to do anything to mark the 20th anniversary of the Macintosh, my guess is that they'll do it in a similar fashion to how they first announced the Macintosh.

All this speculation is fun, all good things come to those that wait.

From RailHead design:

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 6:46am CST

Chicken: Good Crow: Bad
Well, I didnt even come close to hitting the nail on the head regarding Apple announcements that I understood were taking place yesterday sorry about that! And believe me, Im more disappointed than anyone because Im ready, willing, and able to place an order for a generation 2 G5 the second Apple starts taking orders.

So what happened? How Id totally miss the boat? I assumed too much, I suppose, regarding the stock issues and information I was given by Microcenter and the Galleria Apple Store. Two different people at Microcenter told me flat-out, without any coaxing, that new Mac systems were being released this week but they couldnt give full details or MLAs. A girl form the Apple Store said as much though not in so many precise words.

Apparently they were wrong and/or yanking my chain and since Im wanting a G2 G5 as much as the next guy, I jumped the gun. So does this mean we WONT see any new Power Macs this week? No it doesnt so I, for one, will be keeping my eyes peeled. Sorry for the confusion everyone! =(

Well, I was correct. Something was announced today just as the previous two years, though it wasn't what I was hoping.

I tend to agree with you, but in the LA Times today they had a list of all of the companies who were advertising during the Super Bowl.

Apple was not listed once. However, Pepsi did have 4 commercial spots reserved, so maybe a new product/update annoucement (besides the giveaway) will be tied to Pepsi somehow.

The fact that Apple was not listed as an individual advertiser was a bit dissapointing to me... I guess that we'll see how they do it in a few days.
