Anyone ever hear of the iMac kicking on by itself? I've got one that comes on randomly and has shut itself off as well.

Check your energy saver settings.
Check and see that the power button isn't physically sticking.
Reset the CUDA chip. There's a reset switch near the upper right side of the logic board if the ports are on the right. The CUDA chip controls power on and power off, and if it's stored values get corrected you can reset it by holding down the switch momentarily.

I've verified that the Energy Saver CP is not culprit. As for reseting the CUDA chip, is this button located by all the ports on the iMac?
