Creating the interface to an IM app for the iPhone will be an interesting challenge.

Video chatting would be virtually useless on the iPhone given that the camera is on the opposite side of the screen: you couldn't talk and see the other person at the same time without some sort of ridiculous mirror setup.

youtube
I'd like it as an app like google maps.. you click on it and can access the entire youtube catalog that appletv has access to.
I'm surprised they haven't thought of this considering the ceo of google is on their board..

I'm the CEO of one of the top mobile app development companies. We develop for WIndows Mobile and BlackBerry devices. I'm sincerely hoping that next week we add the iPhone to that list.
As a die hard Mac user (every machine we own is a Mac and my servers are XServes) and I'd love to use our 7 years experience building embedded apps to use. One beautiful thing is that finally we can put power and finesse together on the iPhone - something thats very difficult to do on other platforms that just aren't built for it.

Those wishing for GPS integration... think about this. Maybe this means something, maybe its a glitch. In the recently released "Calamari" advertisement, did anyone notice that the Google Maps app seemed to pick out and display the name of the closest seafood establishment with no apperant user interaction with the app? Am I blowing this way out of proportion?

Can someone explain how the "apps" work technically? I've heard two conflicting things.
1) The "app" just means you have a bookmark in the iPhone web browser which loads your web page designed for 320x480.
OR
2) The "app" looks like any of the built-in iPhone apps, such that it works like the new dashboard web snippets (i.e. a web page with an app wrapper).
Which is it? #1 is a cop out. If it's #2, are there any details on how to do it?

Multiple alarm clocks - easy to navigated to and with decent snooze
mplayer / VLC - something that can play h264 / ogg in matroska containers
seperate phone books: it would be great if I could seperate work from home without using groups

Being an avid google maps user on my Treo 650, I've noticed that the software saves the last browsed location whenever you open the program. It is likely that the 'user' in the add was probably already searching SF before the moment in the ad where he searches for restaurant.
However it is also possible it has GPS capability, like those phones that give turn-by-turn audio directions; but you'd think SJ would have mentioned it already if it had the capability.

This is more of a google maps feature, but would be incredibly useful on the iphone. I would like to see google maps add 'hours' to business listings where you click on a business in a google map; rather than having to call the place.
