The update seems to have worked for me. I can't say that things are any faster, but they might be. Well, one thing's for sure: the finder windows scroll and resize very well. Chimera doesn't scroll or resize as quickly as I'd like it to, though.

Is this driver update likely to be included in 10.2.2?

Did ATI add texture compression to the new drivers?.. I don't have an ATI card but i read that the UT2003 for mac is going to need it.. (Epic's Mark Rein)

Putting my computer to sleep now takes about 30 seconds whereas it was instantaneous before this update. Anyone else see this?

I am having problems with SU, but they are the same in my machine (with the new update) and my gfs machine (no update). I think it is Apple's fault.

its waaay to soon i think, the port has just started, maybe w'ell have the demo somewhere in november, but not sooner i think.. The port is being done by one person, the linux programmer for Epic.. Actually I don't think he will be able to get a DECENT port of the game by Christmas, unless he has Cocoa Experience...sorry for my pessimistic thinking

All good on my dual450 with a flashed 8500 275/275...

- No longer get an error when opening the ATI Displays utility.
- WCIII still runs but others have reported problems
- Finder window resizing seems a bit snappier
- Scrolling seems snappier
- iTunes visuals seem uneffected

Its hard to know any of this for sure since I unplugged my S-Video out during the reboot. If left in, half your video RAM is allocated to that output even during mirroring. Now I'm running on 64mb again.

Could you please explain or point me to an explanation of this bug? My G4 fritzed out today (KP on boot..) and I thought it was a QT 6.0.2 thing, but I just upgraded my ATI Drivers yesterday for my Radeon 7000 and have over a gig of RAM...

Thanks,

I consider it a must install. Updated video drivers are always welcome, and so far it's fixed a couple of problems I was having with a flashed 8500.

If you're having problems, quit every app except for the Terminal, type
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
quit the Terminal and then install the new drivers. Then Immediately reboot, don't fool around with it, just reboot as soon as the installer is done.

Yeah, so he can get the settings dialog that pops up before the game launches designed REALLY fast. And the splash screen too!

Cocoa has NOTHING to do with 3D. Programming OpenGL in Cocoa is just instantiating an NSOpenGLView and issuing OpenGL function calls into that view's NSOpenGLContext.

If UT2003 is written entirely in OpenGL, it will be relatively easy to port (regardless of the framework used). Since it is already available for Linux, I bet this is the case.

Open Disk Utility, and go to the Disk First Aid panel to Repair Permissions. You can also repair the disk from there, but not the boot volume. To repair the boot volume, boot from the OS X CD and launch Disk Uitility from the Installer menu.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

thanks. but what does that have anything to do with the ATI update, and sleep? or is it just a 'general fix' thats good for almost everything?

It has nothing to do with it and most likely wont fix your problems, but it's the 'usual' procedure.

well i just tried it, and its fixed. sleep/wake is back to normal. the OS X volume needed repairs.
but maybe all that was actually required was a restart. hmmm..
