This is my first time using mldonkey...I put it in my apps folder but when I'm using it puts all these files on my "home" folder...really annoying.

Havent figured out how to change that.

That is odd, for me, it did not put any files in the home folder. What files did it add to your Home folder?

I had the files in my Home folder as well, until I stopped launching it via the Launcher. Just use the Terminal, it is not hard at all.

Type:

cd /Applications/MLdonkey2.5/
(or whatever the path is)

then:

./mlnet

And that is it!

Use http://localhost:4080 for the web gui. Ive been playing with this for a couple days, let me know if you have more questions.

You need to open and forward:
4661
4662
4666

All of those are open for me and now I no longer have any low ID problems.

For MLDonkey:
TCP 4662
UDP 4666

For Kazaa/Fasttrack:
TCP 1214

For Overnet:
see port in MLDonkey / Options

BTW, it's all in the ReadMe file of MLDonkey!

what are the chances of this whole thing being put into one nice little app that I can fire up and start downloading, like acquisition, or the real kazaa? Is that possible?

More firewall stuff. Must I open all the ports to the servers. When I "View all servers" I get all kinda port numbers. The three under is all from Fasttrack, and there is far more ports used than this ones used under.

Just wanted to tell you that MLdonkey comes with a GUI program that runs out of X11 !!

Add this to your X11's "Applications menu":

cd /Applications/MLdonkey2.5/ ; ./mlgui
or another path if it's not installed there.

Please feel free to tell if you find another gui better. I use both the gui and web

I tried to run it, but it claims to require the GTK library. You can get that here. I haven't tested it yet, though. I'm downloading it now... on dialup...

Edit: Ok, I downloaded and installed GTK, but now it wants "libgmodule." What is that?

If you can beat Dave (Porify, the programmer of Aquisition) to it, Go for it. (Until something as good as Poisioned comes out for mldonkey, I'll keep using that, but it is even HARDER to set up then mldonkey)

FYI,To run the X11 interface, you need to install X11, AND the X11 sdk from apple. The easiest way to install GTK and other libraries is to install Fink, and the nice Fink Commander (a GUI for Fink).

I tried to enter http://127.0.0.1:4080/ into a web browser (IE and Safari) but couldn't connect. I don't seem to have the options available that you stated. ??????

I had the same problem that you had until I download gtk1.2.10.dmg this version and not the one that you provided. After that it worked. In x11 type this in cd /Applications/MLdonkey/ ;./mlgui and it should work perfectly.

I let it load for a while and make sure all the corresponding ports have been configured.

When I run the Installer, it says I need the DLcompat library installed, and to view the readme to find out where to get it. But, I don't see anything about it in the readme...

somehow i doubt very much that YOUR working on it, in fact why are you wanting donations ? you are using Xous builds which are available free elsewhere, your FAQ has a lot of false information in it,so if i was wanting to get started with mldonkey i would advise not to start with that FAQ

Apparently I deleted the AppleScript Menu in a drunken Spring cleaning on my computer. I can't get it anywhere on Apple's site, and the only disc I have with me right now is the Dev Tools that came with 10.2.

Is there any way to install the Launcher other than through the Script menu?

Not that I'm aware of. Your best bet is to get your hands on a Jaguar CD and a copy of Pacifist.
