How do you force a delete on things that won't delete? One is an application from the Windows Media Player folder. It keeps saying it's in use. The others are something called "The Exorcist" that I got off of Download.com......I never even installed it. I just put it right in the trash. Help!!

It's possible to do it through terminal. It's kind of dangerous so you have to be careful, because you can delete important, system-critical files if you want using this method. Here's how you do it:
1. Open Terminal.
2. Type:
(remember to put a space after the last r)
3. Drag the file to the Terminal window, which will automatically enter the path name, like this:
Code:
sudo rm -r ~/Movies/The\ Exorcist.wmv
4. Press return (you may have to enter your admin password).
Ta da!

one note to add on to Luca's post...
in step 2, type sudo rm -r, and DO NOT push enter yet. Push enter after you drag the file to the terminal.

Ok. I tried. It didn't work. This is the message I got in terminal: override rwxrwxrwx
When I try to delete it in the trash, it says the item "htm" is still in use.
It's an application out of Windows Media Player. Everything else from MP is deleted. I even tried changing its name and extension to no avail....except that I can't get back the original name.
It's now called "art" and it has no extension.

I have a second desktop folder that appears whenever I am supposed to select an area to save to or to open a file from. You can select this second desktop but it does nothing, with items be saved to a previously selected folder. The Mac Genious at my local Apple Store did not know what to do with it. Luckily I should be doing a clean install of 10.4 soon....
Oh, I can't delete this folder since it doesn't appear anywhere else.

If it still cannot be deleted after a restart or logout/login, chances are it is nested in your Login Items. Have a look there (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items) and see if there is something related to that file which makes it being in use and therefor not deletable.
