I guess Apple was right all these years before when they offered no cheap headless Mac at all.

Apple's losing many display sales (or iMac sales) on all these minis with Dell displays. People give Apple $500 for the mini and then go give Dell several hundred more just for their cheap and ugly plastic displays. In the old days, these folks would have either given Apple upward of $1599 for a PowerMac or they would have bought an iMac for at least 1300 bucks. Even in the worst case, they would have gotten an eMac which would have made Apple more money than these minis.

Now all the cheap penny pinching users just take the mini and shove the rest of the money up Mike Dell's butt. It's a bad move on Apple's behalf. As an Apple stockholder, I would want them to cash in on iMacs or expensive displays, not cheap minis driving profit to the competition. Steve should have stayed stubborn instead of giving in to his pc user horny marketing department.
You know, I take offense to your stupid idiotic post. I work forty hours a week, I live in a small town and the job I have which pays good for this area, barely gets me by. I love Mac/Apple and have since the early 80's. But could never afford their computers, even to this day I still can't afford their computers, to me, Apple caters to the UPPER CLASS idiots such as yourself, whose parents or grandparents left them a fortune.

I finally have saved my pennies, and continue to save and will be buying my First iMac within 2 weeks! Because I like the style. If the "mini" would have had more options as far as the video card, I may have went with that instead to save some money.

Yeah, that's a pretty dumb statement. The whole point of the mini is that it's appealing to people who wouldn't ordinarily buy those high-end computers and displays, many of them switchers. And the more people Apple gets to buy Macs, the better we are in the long run.

Not to mention that Apple's displays are looking more and more overpriced. I have a 23" cinema display, and when I bought it, Apple's prices weren't really much more than the competition. But I wouldn't buy one today, when on a good day you can get a better monitor (same quality, more inputs) for around half the price.

I sold my PPC Mini setup a few months ago. My kids and I pretty much went completely mobile, switching to notebooks. The problem is that my wife HATES using notebook keyboards, etc and refuses to constantly reconnect external keyboards and mice. The solution? I ended up buying a new Intel Mini and using it on an LCD TV that we use for our XBOX 360. This combination is great for us. I pleasantly suprised at how well a 32" flat panel TV can look at the low native resolution of 1366x768.

So, the stats are:
1.66 GHz Core Duo Mac Mini
2 GB of Transend memory
Apple Keyboard
Mighty Mouse
XBOX 360 Premium
4 Wireless controllers
Sony Bravia 32S2000 Display

This pic is in "Mac Mode". My wife usually just uses it for surfing the web, although I find myself using it for iLife since I miss that from my old Mini.

This pic is in "Game Mode". On my old PPC Mini I was using a Dell 2405 display. While the high resolution display was great for the Mini, gaming on the 360 wasn't so great due to the scaling up of the image. On the Sony Bravia, the 360 looks jaw dropping gorgeous!!!

Those are great pics Kad.. Love them.. I kinda like the mini.. but to me.. not enough vram on the video card chip. So.. I'll wait until I can get my iMac. Oh.. I did have an Apple IIc back in the 80's.. but didn't keep it long.. The commodore C=64 was a little better with sound.

Why did you stack a hot Xbox 360 and a Mac mini together? Nothing about politics but isn't that a bad temperature combination?
Looking forward.

That's certainly a fair question, but it's not a problem at all because a) None of the vents from either unit are blocked in any way, b) the desk is very open so airflow is not a problem, c) the vents that are close at the back are both where the hot air exits (i.e. no hot air being exhausted where another device pulls air in) and d) it's rare that they are ever on at the same time anyway given that they share the same display. Trust me, I'm very aware of the issues of heat (I oversee a handful of IT data centers and heat management for hundreds of servers can be somewhat of an art form).

Because it looks nice.

If I just wanted to save space, I wouldn't need the case. I could just stand it up on its side.

I just got my new desk this week and since I have both a Mac Mini and a PowerBook I'll be posting in both picture threads!

Just so you know, the desk that I have is an O'Sullivan model that can be bought at OfficeMax. Its $150.

If the mods think this pic is too big then by all means remove it and just leave this much smaller thumbnail in its place. Thanks.

Main Computer and EyeTV 200 DVR: Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66Ghz 2GB Ram 160GB HD.
Road Warrior: MacBook White 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo 2GB Ram 80GB HD.
Kubuntu Book: Dell Lattitude C400 running Kubuntu Linux 6.06 1.33 Pentium 3 CPU 1GB RAM 40GB HD with Creative laptop speakers (it only has one speaker).

I just recently sold my PC, just bought a mac mini (1.8, 2gb,) 20" ACD, Keyboard Mouse. So far i am very happy with it. OSX is so much better than XP & Vista (beta), it's like i was computing in the dark ages, then i saw the light OSX.

The mini is very good too, can't wait to stick a Core 2 duo in their L8R

Overall I like the Viewsonic.

Pros: #of Audio/Video inputs, price, design
Cons: Viewing angle (too much color shift horizontally, and shift in contrast vertically), No tilt

Here's mine. I made no effort to tidy it up in any way. Do you like my grungy setup? Pc on left never really gets switched on any more

I quite like the black & white hardware.

It's a 1.5 g4, formac 20" and avent mouse. Wired keyboard for the USB ports.
