I had a pair of HK Soundsticks II myself, I loved them at the time but then I got the Altec Lansing FX6021 - now those are some pretty and great sounding speakers.

primarily KRK V6 series 2 studio monitors, though I also have a set of sennheiser HD-600's, and a pair of Proac Response 2.5's on another output of my mixing board.

For my my main Mac I use an older JVC home stereo system. I have the speakers well separated (I can't touch either if I stand in the middle and put out my arms straight). For my Mac mini, which is the "media hub", I use the AudioEngine 5 speakers.
They produce good sound and they have a a built-in amp. They also have great customer service. They actually sent me a new left speaker because the LED light on it failed at no cost to me and with pre-paid shipping to send back the unit with the faulty LED.
