I am going to BTO an 867 over the weekend. Anyone else who has BTO'd a machine at The Apple Store post any changes in your shipping ststus here.
BTW: A friend of mine ordered a 733 from the Apple Store on Wednesday and he has already received it. Being that it's a new case (in some ways) it's still impressive that he got it two days after the keynote.

Two whole days and no sign of my dual 800!
Actually, I expect it will ship with 10.1. See you in September.

Tomorrow, I will give Apple $2,400 for a new power mac. It will be the new 867mhz, with 80GB,128MB,GF3,CD-RW. I hope it ships as quickly as that 733 did. or if not in two days, and least in 10% the estimated time. I will post the shipping estimate when i hear it from apple.

I was thinking of getting the 867, but chickened out and ordered the 733. Just couldn't justify the extra dough. I'll be able to afford a Digital Camcorder later in the year now, so that'll be cool.
I just hope the new 733 with no L3 cache isn't too much slower than the old one.
It's supposed to only take 3 days to ship too, which played a part in the decision. I just can't wait a month and a half for it to get here.

Today I ordered a 733 BTO with 60GB HD and Combo DVD/CDRW. Everything else I left the way it was configured. Shows 3 days estimated ship time. I hope it ships sooner but if it doesn't I'll have it Friday. I also ordered a Cinema display which shows 7 days wait on the Apple Store. I called in my order and the guy on the phone said the cinema would ship with the computer. So, maybe people ordering a cinema with the computer gets priority? I'll post again when the status of the order changes.

I have plenty of RAM here at home, so I am not going to give Apple any more $$ on that one. I would have gone with the higher clock speed, but the ship time was 2-4 weeks, and I cannot wait that long (I am on a PC currently).

I'm so close to putting in my order... but I guess I'm waiting for my eagerness and my sense of reality to catch up with eachother.
Ok... I got about 2300 to spend and I need a monitor... so here's my options:
Should I get a PowerMac G4 733 (standard config + pro speakers and maybe DVD) with 15 inch LCD or should I get a Gateway Select 1400 (1.4 Ghz Athlon) with 15 inch LCD with all the goodies that I can't afford on the mac end?
I just feel like if I get the powermac (I'm a lifetime mac user by the way) I'm gonna feel so ripped off in a couple months when the new ones come out.
Well, I'm takin a trip to glendale tomorrow to check out the Apple store... maybe they'll convince me not to be so depressed about the state of mac hardware. But damn... $600 for flat screen. So sad.

I plan to get the same model this week. What ship date did they offer you.
BTW, welcome to the wonderful world of Macintosh. Pretty amazing for a first Mac. My first Mac was a 512k machine with a 9 inch monochrome screen. The cache memory on the new G4 is 8 times larger than the system memory on that one. Still have it and it still runs.

I'm going out of town for two weeks starting monday, so I'm hesitant to order the powermac before i get back, although I'll need to get it before september, so I'm in a bit of a pickle. I checked availability on two configs- here's what I found
733Mhz
128MB Ram
60GB HD
GeForce3
Combo Drive
Everything else standard
estimated ship-3 days
866Mhz
128MB Ram
60GB HD
GeForce3
Combo Drive
Everything else standard
estimated ship- 4-6 weeks.
Evidently it's an issue with backordered processors. I suppose I'll wait till Monday to place my order for the 866Mhz model... Or maybe I'll wait till I get back and hope the wait time is down by 2-3 weeks.

It says 4-6 weeks also but I think that's Apple just covering their butts. On the news page someone's 867 is already shipping.

I just ordered my 867MHz,128MB now another 512 later, 80GB, GF3. I did it over the phone so I could ask the guy for more info on shipping, and he told me that all he can say is 4 to 6 weeks. I hope it doesn't take that long.

I'm curious.. how many folks here that ordered the 867mhz w/SuperDrive and a GeForce 3 have gotten confirmation of their CPU's shipping? Anyone?
I just got an email yesterday that gave me shipping info for my free Lexmark printer, but the system's still "Being Assembled" with a ship date of 4-6 weeks. From the reports, I'm hoping that's just to give Apple a positive PR image.. ("Hey, they said it would take 4-6 weeks, and I got it in a week! Woohoo!").
I'm just hoping sticking two previously hard-to-find components like the GeForce 3 and the SuperDrive in there haven't really made that ship time a reality for me..

The machine I ordered yesterday now says it's being assembled. Anyone know from previous experience how long it takes to be assembled, prepped for shipping and then ship? I know it will take 2-5 days to arrive once it leaves Apple, but how long is it from build to ship?
PS here are all the details of the machine:
Power Mac G4 065-2839
867MHz PowerPC G4 065-2873
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM 065-3001
80GB Ultra ATA-7200rpm 065-2916
No Zip drive 065-2956
CD-RW Drive 065-2917
NVIDIA GeForce3-64MB DDR SDRAM 065-2976
No Radeon PCI card 065-2348
No Ultra SCSI PCI card 065-1695
56K internal modem 065-3080
No AirPort Card 065-1899
Apple Pro Keyboard 065-3160
Mac OS 065-2837
Country kit Desktop 065-2838
I also am going to add 512MB of RAM and another 15GB of hard disk for a total of .640GB of memory, and .095TB of storage. I can't wait!!

The 733 I ordered showed up as being assembled shortly after placing the order. As of last night it is showing up as Being Reviewed. Why did it go back a step?!?!?!

Looks like if you change the default config, where they have to do any build to order option changes, the 867 is 4-6 weeks. However, if you leave the package alone it is 2-4 weeks. Just ordered my yesterday at 4-6...HOPEFULLY SOONER!

Well the free printer came today by ordering my G4 733(spec's above in my previous post) but no computer yet.
The computer is still being assembled right now. I hope it gets finished by the end of today and ships so I could have it by Wednesday.
Does anyone know when apple updates there order status do they like have a time when they update all orders for the day?

Has anyone placed orders through some of the other mail order companies? I'm wondering what type of delivery schedule they are realistically looking at. Club mac has told me Aug. 24th for the 867 I ordered. Seems a bit far off...I hope.

So it looks like not a single BTO 867 has shipped yet except for that guy who was mentioned on the front of MacNN.

I ordered from ClubMac last Wednesday night and they said 1-2 weeks for the 867. Their web site has been saying late July/Early August. Maybe they meant July 24. Gawd, I hope it's not August 24.

I called Apple today to find out why my order had changed to Being Reviewed. I used my check card to purchase the computer and display and found out that you have to call the bank to authorize transactions over $500. This must be something new because I've never run into this problem before. Anyway, bank is closed so I have to wait until tomorrow to have it authorized. Apple said the computer was ready to ship and would have shipped this morning if it hadn't been for this. No one called me, I had to call to find out. So, I'm a little perturbed about this. I'm mad at my bank for this stupid authorization rule. I mean someone could have looked at my account and seen that I had deposited cash for the exact amount being spent. I'm mad at Apple for not calling me to tell me about this. Nevertheless, the computer will ship tomorrow. I am happy, though, that Apple went ahead and built the system without the authorization.

I think some 867's are shipping, but only a few are going to customers. I've heard a few times that people saw, or could buy some at The Apple Store. I hope that means that there is a good supply of 867 Mhz processors from Motorola.

I think the banks have started doing that because we all have ATM cards hooked into our accounts. It would be pretty damn easy for someone to clean it out. I can see the sense of it, even if it is annoying....

I just checked ClubMac's site and they now list the 733's in stock and shipping. The 867's are still listed as late July/early Augst.
I didn't order a Lexmark printer with it. Do you get the rebate info in the computer box? I want to go back and buy a gamepad the printer and the G4 speakers.

I just checked the status on my order, and now it says "being reviewed." Nice. I ordered my baby last Wed. night > . I hate waiting for new toys!

Well, I just checked back with ClubMac (poor people) and they did say the eta is August 24. She couldn't answer my question as to why my order said 1-2 weeks (from last Wednesday). Sigh. I'm also one who can't stand waiting for something I bought. I hope this doesn't make the rest of the month crawl! It's too darned hot!

Changed my order this morning. I fought with this all weekend, and decided that for the measly price difference between the 733 and 867 I might as well go for the 867. (I took the SuperDrive out of the 867 and went with the CD-RW) The reseller here seems to think they can get them faster than 4-6 weeks, but we'll see. I've got a busy month planned anyway, as well not having the computer will give me more chance to work on my golf game.
So, the new Order is for a 867 MHz G4, 60 GB HD, 128 MB RAM, Zip 250, GeForce 2 MX, CD-RW with a 17" LCD.
My credit card company will thank me.

Just ordered the following (my first mac) from the apple store:
Power Mac G4 B
NVIDIA GeForce3 - 64MB DDR-SDRAM 065-2976
Accessory kit 065-2838
Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4 065-3162
60GB Ultra ATA drive 065-2915
128MB SDRAM - 1 DIMM 065-3001
Apple Pro Keyboard - U.S. English 065-3160
56K internal modem 065-3080
Mac OS - U.S. English 065-2837
Apple SuperDrive 065-2918
I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for Unix with a reasonable gui and application software. Light at the end of the tunnel.
Now, off to order some reasonably priced disk and ram.

Interesting...I called the Apple Store to ask why my order went from being assembled to being reviewed, and they assured me that things were fine and that I would get my computer shipped in 24 hours. I then checked my order status online and it went to being assembled. The moral of the story: if your order is taking longer than expected, call them @ 800-692-7753. Just be prepared for really bad elevator music.
