When I first opened the slideshow up in either open office or keynote (I don't remember), I heard the sound. When I next opened it up, no sound. I know the sound is there because I can hear it when I open with MPlayer; of course I wouldn't see the pictures. I tried Flip4Mac but Quicktime says it isn't a movie and won't work. I don't know how to activate the sound. Thank you for any help.

I have OS 10.5.2 on yesterdays MBP.

does it behave differently if you rename it to .ppt instead of .pps?

Sharon, thank you for replying and trying to help.

.ppt didn’t work for me. I don’t know anything about Microsoft products except Word and I don’t even have that now. I’m trying to make do with OpenOffice and NeoOffice; iWork as a last resort.

I received the .pps in an email and I tried to play it before I had a chance to study Keynote or Impress.
The sound that came with the slideshow was called Musica Celta - La Musica de los Dioses Titanic.

Before I figured out how to get the sound to play within the slideshow, I found that sound on a YouTube video.
YouTube - la musica de los dioses - clasica, celta y espiritual
I downloaded the video as a FLV and then extracted the sound from that as a MP3.
Apple - Downloads - Video - SWF & FLV Player

I added it to iTunes and tried Keynote again. As I made the window larger, lo and behold the Media icon showed up. Playing with the Inspector, I clicked on the Document icon instead of the Slide icon and found what I was looking for. Between the Document, Slide and Media inspectors I was able to insert the music from iTunes and got it to play.
